Looks like a typical sunny day in China, except in China it’s not dust.
I would go bicycling in that weather in the ‘70s. I’d arrange things so the wind was at my back and desired destination ahead. Wore a filter mask and goggles and blinkenlights. Could get up to 45 mph easily.
Yup, they are common. I’ve been through one when I lived in Mesa.

When they say “wall” it really looks like a wall of dust.
In 1969, there was a dust storm in Phoenix metro *every day* during the month of July. Most always starting at 4pm.
But then, the land east of Phoenix was farmed, and that seriously suppressed the storms.
