On Tuesday evening, massive walls of dust rolled through the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, promoting the Arizona Department of Transportation to warn drivers to stay off roads as visibility was heavily impacted.
Just before 7:30 pm local time, the National Weather Service in Phoenix said the dust cloud was blowing into the Phoenix area and would impair visibility.
Local news Fox 10 captured the massive dust storm rolling through the metro area.

The latest data from the US Drought Monitor shows much of Arizona is in some form of a drought.
As for the drought situation in the western half of the country, it’s severe and alarming, and lands are transforming into fallow wastelands.
Don’t people start to shrink after a mysterious dust cloud rolls over them?

Looks like a typical sunny day in China, except in China it’s not dust.
I would go bicycling in that weather in the ‘70s. I’d arrange things so the wind was at my back and desired destination ahead. Wore a filter mask and goggles and blinkenlights. Could get up to 45 mph easily.
Yup, they are common. I’ve been through one when I lived in Mesa.
Amazing thing to see and live through.
When they say “wall” it really looks like a wall of dust.
In 1969, there was a dust storm in Phoenix metro *every day* during the month of July. Most always starting at 4pm.
But then, the land east of Phoenix was farmed, and that seriously suppressed the storms.
