New Jersey‘s Republican gubernatorial nominee is using a novel approach to appeal to the state's Democrat-leaning electorate without angering the GOP base — and he’s letting the base in on it.
“I'm never gonna disrespect the base, but you guys got to give me a little wiggle room” Jack Ciattarelli told a conservative crowd at a gun range in historically Republican Hunterdon County late last month, according to video footage obtained by POLITICO. “Give me a little wiggle room to spend time going to places Republicans typically don't go. And give me a little wiggle room on how to talk about issues. Because the goal is to win.”

You’re right, hold his feet to the fire and get Murphy re-elected. New Jersey is a lost cause anyway.
I voted for Rizzo in the primary. Jack is a typical NJ RINO and will most likely lose. Murphy is a Venezuelan level Socialist with a talent for channeling Stalin during our lockdowns. It’s not a hard choice to vote for Jack right now.
Rizzo is a charlatan.
Murderin’ Murph is a toxic regressive.
I wouldn’t vote for this guy in a million years. Send him back to the GOP and ask for your money back.
Just stand on principles and if you lose, you lose. But at least people will get the government they deserve.
His goal is to win, our goal is to back a winning candidate that won't cave on the first tough issue.
This clown is caving before the fight starts and he is at a gun range.
We PA residents have our own problems, but at least we can still carry and even the lefty gubbernor wolf is smart enough to know not to touch that tar baby.
Here is the scoop..
We elect you to accomplish certain things...
We elect you to do a job..
Do the job, accomplish what we sent you there to accomplish..
Then, and only then, will you have earned the right to some wiggle room
“I’m never gonna disrespect the base”
‘I’ll still respect you in the morning.’
I have a better idea, though I suspect it is advice this greasy politician won't consider:
Why not have principles, believe in and stick to those principles, and explain to others in a convincing and earnest way why you think they are valid?
Too much to ask? Perhaps for most politicians.
Jack Ciattarelli wants the New Jersey GOP to let him be a political whore.
Sigh.
In my state, we don’t even have RINOs, they just call opposing Republicans RINOs so they can have an election. There isn’t any difference between them except one might be less leftist than another.
Been that way my whole life. I don’t know what it is like to have representative government. I can only view representative government vicariously in other states far away.
In any compromise between good and evil it is only evil that profits.
Yeah. Weird. Even asking for permission. Very strange.
Fine by me. It’s NJ. Ok so don’t give money. If he’s the best we can get you can always hold your nose.
Holding our nose is EXACTLY why we have the absolute RINOS who stabbed Trump in the back at every turn DONT YOU DARE hold your nose and vote for ANYONE ever again!!!
I don’t live in New Jersey. I live in a worse state, if there is such a thing.
I am not sure anymore about “holding the nose and pulling the lever”. I did that for McCain and Romney, and I am having a hard time convincing myself we wouldn’t be even further down the road to perdition with the leftist policies advanced with “bipartisan” support they likely would have pushed.
Doesn’t seem like any good answers.
*DONT YOU DARE hold your nose and vote for ANYONE ever again!!!*
*Doesn’t seem like any good answers.*
Come on people. Holding your nose for Susan Collins is better than a 49 seat minority status. The fact that REPUBLICAN voters continually renominated the red state Chuck Hagels/Dick Lugars out there tells you that we’re slow learners. Murkowski/Cheney will hopefully find out but you folks unwilling to follow the Buckley rule are not helping.
Collins will turn more left with a GOP majority in the senate but don’t take it out on other blue state RINO’s. As for Murkowski/Cheney just do your jobs when they don’t.
Oh, I get that.
I just wonder about the destructive and corrosive changes from “Bipartisan” efforts that can impart legitimacy, but which really are Leftist inspired and executed.
“You folks unwilling to follow the Buckley rule”. You don’t know what my voting record is.
I think people who DON’T consider the effect and just hold their noses and vote unthinkingly are, unthinking.
And look where that got us. Hell in a handbasket in a bipartisan fashion.
I’d rather be stabbed in the chest by an open Leftist than stabbed in the back by someone who says they are a conservative.
