Hafner, surprizingly, comes across as naive, as someone who is unwilling to recognize the culture war we are in. He comes across as someone who thought he could get a reasonable response from NYT Magazine, and control what they focused on.
He could not. He even says, he knows the NYT cannot be trusted.
But, he thought it was too good a chance to promote veteran's issues to pass up (and to promote his brand).
I will say it again. Naive. Naive. When will he learn? How many times does he have to be stabbed in the back to see his enemy has a knife and is willing and eager to use it?
It was clear to me, when I read the article, the NYT Magazine writer lead Hafner down a path, talking about racism and anti-semitism, to get the quotes he could then intersperse with his commentary, to paint Hafner and BRCC as "moderate" "semi-woke", anti-Rittenhouse.
Hafner fell for it, and seems a bit surprised when it happened.
Even now, his response leaves much to be desired. He should have been more specific. He should have shown how his responses were manipulated.
You have just described practically every Republican in Congress..........................
