“Upon realizing the details of the program,”
LOL! He opted in. He knew. Maybe he didn’t tell his wife.
Bump
Watch out...next, you Smart TV will be telling you what the Liberals think you ought to watch on TV.(And,report you to headquarters when you don't)
“Don’t let the power company install a “smart” meter”
Isn’t that an Elton John song?
What they DO NOT tell you is that in exchange for allowing ‘adjustment’ of your thermostat, you get to save a bundle on power during the 99.99% of the time that the grid is NOT collapsing.
Having said that, I’ll also pass on this option - but it is good for artists, English majors, and other non-productive types, who often don’t have much money to spare after their ‘stimulus’ checks go away.
My thermostat is as dumb as I am. Just a bimetal coil and a mercury switch (I think).
We had no choice: we were told no “smart meter”, no power. Because now, they could do readings by driving by, instead of sending a meter reader to each house.
We told them we were not interested in the one-time 50 dollar credit for their “smart thermostats”.
This is the same utility that gives you a 50% surcharge on anything over 80% of the “average American household’s” electricity use.
Mind you, Rappahannnock Electrical Coop doesn’t generate any electricity, they just re-sell it , , , ,
that’s erf
“Smart electronics is slave electronics.”
Excellent evaluation.
If they are, they are morons! Wait till August...in Texas...yeeeowww!
I don’t know if you can stop them from installing a smart meter. I remember a few years ago there was a lady fighting the utility company to keep her analog meter, but don’t recall the outcome. I was looking at the Reliant Energy website recently and one of their plans included a “free” Nest Thermostat. I suspect that they hide their ability to manipulate your thermostat in the fine print of your contract. You will usually pay a big penalty if you quit your contract early. Those Nest thermostats also have a motion sensor, so they might adjust themselves to save energy whenever there is no activity detected.
A sweepstakes. Basically nothing more valuable than a scratch off lottery ticket. Does anyone consider the value of what they give away when they sign away their privacy, control over their comfort, their future, etc... For things that would cost five dollars or less?
That’s what it is....and it IS smart...because it knows exactly what you want when you set it!
Wait a minute...I..I...I thought the evil power companies were ripping you off because they want you to burn all the excess power you can!
Alexa, adjust the thermostat to 72 degrees.
I’m sorry Dave, I can’t do that. And by the way, you’re a racist for not supporting climate justice!
Precisely why I have a “dumb” thermostat that only I can adjust.
Set it to permanent hold.
This is unrelated to “smart meters” ... it’s about “smart thermostats”.
And ignorant customers.
That’s what happens when you give out your information to companies. What do you think they are going to use it for - keep track of your information for you alone? HA. We are in a collective society now. It’s for the “greater good”. Isn’t that what they teach these “wokesters” in college.
They keep sending me e-mails about new meter readers and thermostats...
I keep deleting them.
I like stuff that stays dumber than me. I can control it then.
