CATO Director of Tax Policy Studies Chris Edwards joined Fox Business to dismantle a leftist argument from the Soros-funded ProPublica that the rich don’t pay their fair share in taxes.
Edwards ripped ProPublica’s recent report that used selective data to claim that “[e]xperts have long understood the broad outlines of how little the wealthy are taxed in the United States.” He retorted on the June 17 edition of Kudlow: “ProPublica summarized data on just 25 tax returns of selected wealthy people, but they were unrepresentative of the broader group of wealthy people in America.” Edwards lambasted the outlet for being “very selective in what they’re releasing here.”

The rich don’t pay their fair share...they pay too much! The top 10% of US taxpayers account for 72% of total IRS tax collections. 51% of the population pays nothing. Leftist say: Tax the rich and give to the poor. Really? Why? How ‘bout this instead: Modify fiscal policy to encourage the rich to expand the economy instead of punishing them. If the rich have 50% of the income and you only have 10%, grow the economy so you have 10% of a larger pie. In the absence of inflation, your real income and standard of living just increased. Leftist see fiscal policy as a zero-sum game. However, good fiscal policy reinforces the idea that a rising tide lifts all boats. Leftists want to sink the yachts and put everyone into the same dingy.
We need to stop glorifying the poor. How many of you were hired by a poor person? Most people are poor due to poor decision making. Contrary to what Leftists say, decisions have consequences.
The family with two hard working individuals and two nice incomes is already paying far far more than its share. The super wealthy soros/gates/bezos/clintons don’t pay.
I challenge anyone to find ‘the definition as used by politicians, ‘fair share’.
Please debunk the notion as well that elites ripped off the trillions of dollars floating around for COVID relief while displaced workers are facing foreclosure, eviction and bankruptcy.
Just remember - to Democrats/Socialists, “fair share” means everything you have.
Check out Klaus Schwab’s “great reset” where the government owns everything, and you.
Except for Joe who shielded speaking fees as corporate money to avoid payroll taxes.
