Citing “Democracy,” Dems Deny Popular Bill a Vote
The Houston Courant ^ | 6/1/21 | B. Vasoli

Texas Democratic state legislators opened their press conference Sunday night with an invocation. Representative Carl Sherman (D-Dallas County) ended the prayer with this entreaty: “Remove us from this hypocrisy and give us democracy.”

He and his colleagues had just left their chamber to prevent a vote on major legislation that would otherwise have passed and that voters overwhelmingly support. In this context, Sherman’s words sound contrite. They were not.

The reason he and other House Democrats consider it “democratic” to extralegally block a popular bill from enactment by Texans’ duly elected lawmakers is that the proposed election law, Senate Bill 7, would supposedly overburden voters.

Democrats complained that the legislature’s GOP majority disallowed sufficient debate on the bill, denying Democrats the chance to explain why they find it unsound. But Representative Chris Turner (D-Tarrant County) elaborated that he and other S.B. 7 opponents intended to use extended debate to delay the matter past the end of session, denying Republicans the right to vote on it.

Wow, a prayer just before a Democrat led rump meeting of Democrat State legislators.

Aren’t these the same types who tried to kick God out of their party platform?

I guess when you get brave, you can even challenge God. If God has a plan for everything and everyone, prayer could not affect God’s behavior. ... “The trick is that God gave mankind free will — that allows for the legitimacy of prayer.” But prayer cannot work in the case of free will, either. If we have the power to choose our own destiny, prayer has no role to play. Mankind has free will to accept or reject the grace of God. Rejection of the gifts of God is called blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Free will is a gift.

Welcome to hell Representative Sherman.

Members of this political party are Democrats. There is little about Democrats that is democratic. And thank you Rush Limbaugh for teaching us the difference.
