Additional details began to emerge on Thursday, less than a day after the San Jose shooting claimed nine lives. The suspect was identified as 57-year-old Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) employee Sam James Cassidy. He reportedly had two semi-automatic handguns, but the exact models have not been disclosed.
He also reportedly had eleven loaded magazines, while law enforcement officials said a fire in his house began around the same time he began his shooting spree – suggesting he had some way to set it off either remotely or via a timer.
“What we’re operating under now, and I’m not sure this isn’t going to change, is that he set some kind of device to go off at a certain time probably to coincide with his shooting,” Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith said during an appearance Thursday morning on NBC’s Today Show.
The gunman was believed to have known the nine individuals he fatally shot. Cassidy had reportedly worked for VTA since 2012, first as a mechanic and then as someone who maintained the substations.

Mass shootings occur where there are unarmed victims, not in places where lethal response could be anticipated. Someone planning to commit a mass shooting will acquire the means, legally or illegality. So why is the government response intended to create a larger pool of victims? And why the concentration on guns largely held by an estimated 40-50% of the population? My thoughts on this are to look at the history of free nations and what has happened after the implementation of gun control. But wait, we can’t do that in this era of history revisionism and scholarly support of socialism and communism. Step by step our history, freedom, religion and rights are being taken away. If you are reading this you already know the importance of supporting conservative legislators. Please put forth the effort to educate others and, if able, run for local office. We lose everything if we sit quietly and allow corruption to flourish around us.
Mass killers are mass killers. If they don’t have a gun, they’ll use a truck, as they do in Europe.

The left is not going to take guns from violent criminals, and wants more mass shootings which justify their seizure of guns from non-violent people.
