...State Rep. Jena Powell, R-Arcanum, is drafting legislation that would prevent the state from administering any vaccine lottery program.
Hundreds of thousands of Ohioans have already signed up for the Vax-A-Million lottery, which will begin May 26 and include five weekly drawings of $1 million prizes. Participants must be at least 18 years old and have received at least their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.
There is a separate lottery program for those between the ages of 12 and 17, with the teenage winners receiving a full ride scholarship to any Ohio college or university.
The prize money will come from federal relief funds that have already been allocated to the Ohio Department of Health....
“As elected leaders, we’re obligated to take seriously our duty to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars,” House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes, D-Akron, said in a recent statement. “Using millions of dollars in relief funds in a drawing is a grave misuse of money that could be going to respond to this ongoing crisis. Ohioans deserve better than this. I do hope people continue to get the vaccine and help our state reach herd immunity so our economy and way of life can thrive again.”
State Rep. Haraz Ghanbari, R-Perrysburg, issued a statement calling for “additional accountability” from the Ohio General Assembly regarding the Vax-A-Million program.
Bills normally require a 3-month waiting period until being enacted. Powell’s legislation includes an emergency clause for it to go into effect immediately in order to “prevent the COVID-19 vaccination lottery from taking place.”
Along with prohibiting Vax-A-Million, Powell proposes to redirect the funding used for these drawings toward either children’s mental health initiatives or to small business relief grants....

For your consideration.

I’m no lawyer but I can imagine lawsuits...many of them...if the drawings aren’t held as originally announced.
Insane.
Waste of taxpayer money, without legislative approval. And if the state that authority, shame on the legislature. Who’s going to pay for the liability of people getting the shots for the lottery, then becoming injured or dead?
Another legislative Party Pooper!
Finally some adults have entered the room.
Senior Scientist on COVID Vaccines: ‘Insanely Reckless’
Stephanie Seneff, Ph.D., a senior research scientist at MIT, is sounding the alarm over the radically unnatural COVID-19 vaccines. Studying them over the past year, she’s uncovered research that most people haven’t seen, but will send chills down your spine.
Hey, DeWine wants this . . . he’s the future one-term governor for whom I not only held my nose but also pinched my nose to vote for. Politicians just love to throw money around that come from taxpayers . . .
“As elected leaders, we’re obligated to take seriously our duty to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars. Using millions of dollars in relief funds in a drawing is a grave misuse of money that could be going to respond to this ongoing crisis.” — House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes, DEMOCRAT-AkronI cannot remember the last time a democrap said something that makes sense and I agree with.
Mike DeWine needs to go as Governor of Ohio that’s the bottom line.
DeWine drank the Kool Aid of business shutdown, curfews, mask orders and vaccination mania.
The Republicans who were COVID tyrants must be held accountable the propaganda that blames the Democrats for all COVID tyranny and mistakes isn’t the whole story.
That propaganda on talk radio and websites, cable news does not distract me from demanding and insisting on Republicans who pushed COVID restrictions and orders paying the price.
This is where either the primary gets rid of them or I vote Democrat or third party in the general.
Fear of “the Left” should not influence any decisions on votes since “the Right” already demonstrated its tyranny over COVID-19 again and again in 2020 and 2021.
They ought to use the funds to pay hospital bills and provide vaccination death insurance for people who have adverse reactions to the vaccine.
It’s not that many people who have adverse reactions but it can be devastating to a family when it happens. All indications are that the vaccine is far safer than getting the virus itself, although not completely safe.
Too bad they don’t have a printing press like Washington does.
I live in Ohio, and I, for one, am disgusted with the GOP playing “Musical RINOs” in our government. These POS RINOs just move from one office to another. Take DeWine — Senator, then Attorney General, now Governor. There have been others, as well, that move from one office to another. We need new, young, conservative candidates. How Sherrod Brown (RAT-Commie) keeps getting elected is beyond me!
Don't worry, if drug addict Brown needs the votes to stay in office, the Dems will print all he needs since he now has the Supreme Court's and VP Pence's approval. That's why I refuse to vote anymore.
The vaccine industry and its propaganda are evil.
in a real pandemic you wouldn’t need to convince people to take precautions
