Never heard of her, either.

Wikipedia (for what it’s worth) says:

“Sherri Tenpenny is an American anti-vaccination activist who supports the disproved hypothesis that vaccines cause autism. An osteopathic physician, she is the author of four books opposing vaccination.”

Always be skeptical about whichever “expert” you choose to trust. Merely identifying as an “activist” and writing books about medical anecdotes, or dribbling basketballs, or acting against a green screen, or writing lucrative computer code, doesn’t make anyone an “expert” on public policy, pathophysiology, or immunology. For that matter, being the highly vaunted head of a governmental infectious disease research division doesn’t keep that administrator from throwing the baby out with the bath water in favor of a misguided “science-y” desire to run and hide from the boogie man.

Yes; that’s true. That door swings both ways, right?

She’s an osteopathic physician, and people tend to disparage them as crackpots and kooks. I’m in my 70s, and the best PCP I’ve had, by far, was a DO. She wasn’t anti-vax or anti-prescription in any way, but did try to look at my big picture before writing a prescription. Trump’s personal physician while he was in the White House, Sean Conley, is a DO.

As far as vaccines for kids in relation to autism, it could be true or not. Maybe it’s a coincidence that autism reared its head with a vengeance at the same time kids were being barraged with cocktails full of who-knows-what. I don’t have kids and haven’t delved into that myself, but the timeline is suspicious. My SIL and niece, both of whom have small children, are 100% anti-vax. I’m not, and have had several throughout my life; I just won’t have THIS one until maybe 2025 if it appears to be safe.

In any case, people have opinions on both sides of the FauciFlu shots, and that’s life I guess.

Tenpenny graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toledo in 1980 and received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri in 1984.[3]

Looks up Osteopathic

Osteopathic medicine is a branch of the medical profession in the United States. Osteopathic physicians (DOs) are licensed to practice medicine and surgery in all 50 states and are recognized to varying degrees in 85 other countries.

Pretty badass degree right there.

Story time.

I remember when our kids were babies and then toddlers, the wife would say it was time for shots again and one time I said; "Again? Seems like they've had tons of shots already. I don't think we used to get that many shots when I was young." The docs were just going by the schedule that comes down from the CDC.

After one round of shots, within two weeks my son quit trying to talk. It was the triple whammy MMR. He also started playing with only one toy, or part of a toy about the size of a half length pencil, flicking it back and forth in front of his face. We tried to tell doctors and they blew us off with one female doc saying, "Oh, boys just mature later than girls." I had looked up the stopped talking and flipping/flicking of a toy and came up with autism. Docs wouldn't listen to us though. He was about 1 1/2 when he quit talking and making eye contact and he didn't speak a word until he was 4 1/2. When riding in the car one day, I heard him quietly reading the words on signs; Restaurant, Insurance, Commercial. All bigger words and all pronounced correctly. Even though he shut down communication for three years, he was listening and learning. We would get him all kinds of neat stuff for Christmas and he would check them all out and go right back to flicking that one little toy part and on the rare occasion when he misplaced that thing, OMG. Total freak out. We put him in school but then the pencil replaced that little toy and by then he had sound effects to go with it so he was disturbing the class. They finally got a team together and diagnosed him with autism/Asperger's. (no fucking shit; ya don't say)

Sure wish I'd have looked up one of these crazy anti-vax doctors 20 years ago. He's 19 now and we're on life training which will go on for years. Some quirks are funny, some not so much. His comfort food is yellow rice. I've seen him shovel it in while it was still super hot and watched him quake as it burned his mouth and do it again and again until I yanked the plate away from him. We finally got him to stop doing that. We all got the flu shot one year and it gave us flu symptoms worse and for longer than the flu. Never got another. When the wife started working at a nursing home, she brought home colds and the flu on a regular basis and we were sick a lot for 5 years and then it just stopped and we haven't had a cold or flu for 5 years now. Hey, maybe there's something to that whole building up of your immune system.

Rant time.

These concoctions that big pharma are coming up with aren't for everyone but hey, someone's getting rich so who cares what they do to some people. More than half the country's on some sort of prescription and likely addicted to opioids and other things but again, someone's getting rich so who cares. Pretty much every mass school shooting has been done by some kid on psychotropic drugs but hey, as long as someone's getting rich, that's what really counts.

They vaccinated for maybe 7-8 things when I was young and everyone was healthy. Now it's 21 different things they vaccinate for. Did a dozen new debilitating diseases suddenly appear in the last 40 years? No. It's all about money. Most Docs are ok with it because it's easy money for them. Easier than stitching up a cut or even pulling a splinter. Same with prescriptions. Feeling down because you're poor? Here, have some Cymbalta. The government will pay for most of it. "You'll own nothing and be happy" once we get your meds right.
