Do Unpaid Landlords Not Have Bills? CBS Airs Segment Whining About ‘Epidemic of Evictions’

There’s an epidemic of abysmal job growth, gas shortages, government money everywhere and spiking inflation. But CBS appeared more upset that landlords were desperate to pay their bills in a recent broadcast.

CBS Evening News whined over the “epidemic of evictions” during its May 19 episode. The network ran a chyron for 154 seconds that propagandized how “Tenants Facing Eviction Place Last Hope In Court Hearings.” CBS News correspondent Omar Villafranca’s segment on evictions repudiated how landlords “filed over 300,000 evictions during the pandemic,” despite a federal ban. Villafranca specifically targeted evictions in Texas, and complained that the state has only doled out "just over" $112 million in “rental assistance” money, despite more than $1 billion in its coffers. Villafranca argued as if the taxpayer-funded “rental assistance” money grew on trees.

Villafranca and CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell did not mention the economic plight currently facing landlords struggling to make ends meet during the segment. For context, CNN ran a February story headlined, “Unpaid rent is piling up. Landlords can’t hold on forever.” CBS’s entire anti-landlord segment lasted 164 seconds.

That’s why I don’t invest in real estate... You become a villain to economic idiots. Better to make 10% per year in mutual funds...

In my apt building last year we had 21 apts out of 36 empty out between April and December. Filled up then many emptied out again. Not sure of the grand total. Several apts left unrented for months. Currently have 1 from Oct and another from Nov that are still empty. People move in and stop paying then move out after some months. Never had this kind of turnover.
I hardly know anyone anymore.

Sorry you’ve had such turnover....I knew a landlord who had tenants rent for three months and not pay rent...just moved out because the renters knew it takes 3 months to evict at least.

Generally speaking after two months renters rarely catch up let alone pay what they owe in the future.

Very true.

And technically the day after the rent was due you can issue a 7-Day Notice to Quit order. But very few landlords do because at that point it is generally war. And it will be a long, drawn out and painful.

My little headache is always anywhere from 15 to 20 days late. But he does pay. Eventually.

You notice how property taxes were not excused right?

The government never would go after the public workers like that, they need their full time jobs sitting at home for a year or so, so pay up peon, we don’t care if you can’t collect the rent or your job has been shuttered. And wear your mask so you don’t kill Grandma, and forget about Andre Cuomo sticking old people in the same facility as covid patients.

Considering I do the books and manage property for several other small landlords as well as being one myself, yes, I noticed.
