And, if this is true, Patrick is VERY, VERY angry that his sleight-of-lies got discovered.

After reading that article, I did not find out what, exactly, the amendment was, or what it said.

Completely useless article. What is the ‘poison pill’? Why is it ‘poison’? It very well may be an amendment intended to derail passage but this article only hurls outrage at an unrevealed amendment.

I have the same issue. Also, I would like to know how, under Texas law, a representative of the executive branch has the power and authority to amend legislation without the majority consent of the the state senate.

I believe they’re eluding to the amendment that allows law enforcement to stop you without probable cause.

It was three amendments. They are germane. There is no reason the House can’t accept the Senate version.

“The Sheriffs’ Association of Texas signaled tepid support on Wednesday when they sent a letter to Schwertner that outlined three key areas of the bill that required “critical, must-have clarifications and amendments.” Those tweaks, offered by Schwertner on the floor, strike from the bill a provision that would’ve expunged certain weapons-related charges on Texans’ criminal records, allow law enforcement officers to temporarily disarm a person who is detained and temporarily strip the permitless carry rights of people accused of certain violent crimes.”

Law enforcement only need reasonable suspicion to conduct an investigatory stop, not probable cause. Terry v. Ohio has been the law since 1968.

If I were the Texas house, I’d say “OK” then let the court overturn the poison pill.

At this point the Texas constitution has 507 Amendments. It’s truly idiotic. It’s like a small tasteful house, with 507 additions!

lol. every other thread on FR is a thrill ride in trouble making stupidity.

I didn’t click on it for the same reason I don’t intentionally step in dogs*t, but nowhere in this silly damn story excerpt is the alleged “poison pill” actually described.

It passed the senate today. Even if you don’t know which end goes “boom” and will likely shoot yourself or a bystander, you can carry in public.
