The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation announced that former Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton and six others who have risked their lives and safety to protect others during the coronavirus pandemic will receive a special Profile in Courage Award this year.

Caroline Kennedy, JFK’s daughter, and her son, Jack Schlossberg, will present the awards for COVID Courage during a virtual ceremony that will air on May 26 at 6 p.m. U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney will also be honored for his historic vote during the first 2020 impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump.

The presidential library notes that under Acton’s leadership, Ohio was ahead of most other states in responding to the virus. Yet she became the target of protesters and state legislators, who sought to limit her power and engaged in personal attacks against her.

Thousands of people from across the country submitted COVID Courage nominations. The seven honorees represent the courage and national sacrifice that the country has witnessed in so many aspects of American life, according to a statement from the presidential library.

“Today’s honorees put their own lives at risk to keep others safe. They inspire us all with their courage and give new meaning to President Kennedy’s legacy of public service,” Caroline Kennedy, honorary president of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, said in a prepared statement...

I wonder if Teddy Kennedy ever got the Profiles in Courage award? After all, he said he risked his life diving to save Mary Jo and got so exhausted from doing so, he went back to his hotel room, didn’t stop at any of the houses with lights during his travel back there and just couldn’t find a phone to call the police. Now THAT is courage, for a politician.

Donald Trump deserves one of these awards as well.

“U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney will also be honored for his historic vote during the first 2020 impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump.”

I like how they stuck this little statement in the “Profiles in Courage” award. It took a lot of something to vote to impeach President Trump, but it didn’t take any “courage”.
