It only took the U.S. Justice Department four short years between ambushing a top Trump national security advisor in the White House to ambushing small-town Alaska spa owners and Iraq War veterans inside their own homes. At least way back in 2017, Democratic Party henchmen disguised as federal prosecutors tried to conceal the targeting of a decorated Army lieutenant general who was on Barack Obama’s hit list.

But given 2020, what recently happened in New Hampshire, etc., there appears to be a growing perception that the legitimacy of the election process is in question.
Chicanery of that sort has been going on at least as far back as Tammany Hall, but its a question of scale now.
At least one political party appears to be "all in", and a good chunk of the other major political party as well. This is why its now getting so blatant.
I would argue that what we're now seeing is what happens when the ruling regime's legitimacy is in question, along with serious doubts about the mechanisms used to keep it in place-use of force to maintain power.
If not stopped, it’s going to get worse.

Speaking of the East German Government and the Stasi, the German film ‘The Lives Of Others’ is very good. It made most top 10 lists when it came out and won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film.
William Buckley said it was the best film he had ever seen and it also was listed as one of the top Conservative films for the true life portrayal of the crushing effects of Socialism. That was 15 years ago. Today, the Democrats, who hate American cops, would be cheering for the Stasi as they tried to suppress dissidents.
