An elevated portion of the Mexico City metro collapsed late Monday, sending a subway car plunging into a crowded boulevard, killing at least 23 people and injuring about 70, according to city authorities. Rescuers spent hours searching for someone that could be stuck in a vehicle that had been left hanging from the overpass.

However, those attempts were halted early Tuesday due to safety issues for those operating around the precariously hanging driver. A crane was brought in to assist with the stabilisation.

“We don't know if they are alive,” Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum said of the passengers who might have been stuck inside the car after one of the city's busiest subway crashes.

I’ve been to MC several times. Their building codes are a joke. Hotels have uneven floors.

unfortunately their infrastructure spending is only 10% infrastructure and the rest goes to politicians pet projects and cartel payoffs, not unlike their neighbor to the North.

The Paris Fire Brigade ... Its motto is "Save or Perish" (French "Sauver ou périr").

Things just are not what they used to be.

Not far from me, a ditch collapsed on a worker. His mates were in the hole digging him out...

Police ORDERED them out of the area!
Firemen could NOT go in the hole until they had a crane and safety box!!!!
Rush hour traffic .

One hour plus the equipment arrives...

The man died alone in the hole.

When they block traffic to solicit money in a fire boot; I'm too nice(???) to tell them to go piss in the damn boot!

I’ve spent a lot of time in the Federal district there. I agree. If it’s not a multi-national brand (like a Marriott or a Best guy) then the concrete work can be REALLY sketchy.

Those cops would have to arrest me. I wouldn’t stop digging short of being handcuffed and thrown into the back seat.
Dude may have been dead when I got to him. But I would be able to look his family in the eye and honestly say I gave it my best.
Just as importantly I could look at myself in the mirror and say I gave it my best.

—”Those cops would have to arrest me.”

This happened next to a restaurant where a friend had just finished eating.

He said the guys were very contentious about being removed.

Are there good and brave men among firefighters and cops; YES MANY.

Since this event, I have never seen them as a group in the same light.

USCG you have to go out. You don’t have to come back.
