With My Body, I Thee Worship - Book of Common Prayer, Matrimony Ceremonial

This won't change your opinion one whit, but you will be placed in the position of disavowing a lie, or supporting it. Eliza Doolittle's father, Stanley Holloway, says to Rex Harrison, "You Worship". He isn't deifying him, it's short for "your worthyship". “I thee worship” means the husband honors the wife; he's not making her a goddess.

Why do Catholics worship the Virgin Mary? It's not that they give her the Adoration solely due to God, called Latria. They give the saints Dulia, veneration--there's a stained-glass window in Westminster Presbyterian by the California State Capital, of John Calvin--he's venerated, he's "worshipped".

Just so you can't say you don't know, just so you can't deliberately mis-understand, Eve was created in a state of sinlessness, but she fell. Mary was specially created in a state of sinlessness, but she didn't fall, she passed the test, and she is accorded the most extreme Veneration, Hyperdulia.

Catholics say that Mary is holier than any other creature, including angels. They say she was saved by Christ's sole sacrifice on Calvary, but saved differently, before she fell, so that she never sinned, so that her foot was never dashed against a stone. Others whose lives showed evidence that they were specially beloved of God, were Enoch and Elijah, and it is said in a Targum, a commentary on the Torah, that no one knows where Moses is buried, and he appeared with Elijah in the Transfiguration. So, they were taken up to heaven bodily, but Catholics, and Orthodox, just not Protestant, believe that Mary, after not presuming the dignity of leaving this world without death, fell asleep, and then was taken up bodily into heaven, where she is the first of "The Resurrected", who we will join with the reunification of our bodies at last in the new paradise.

Just so you can't say you don't know, just what Catholics believe.

Every year at lent my (Catholic) dad says "I don't understand why Protestants can eat meat on Fridays but we can't".

And every year for several years I dutifully explained to him the reason behind this particular form of Lenten sacrifice.

Finally, about the fifth time, I simply responded:

"You mean, you don't want to understand."

Mary was born with a sinful nature, as a descendant of Adam.

She needed a Savior.

Stanley Holloway is the actor. The character Eliza Doolittle’s father is Alfred Doolittle.

Agreed. People get so tied up in this “worship” accusation, without thinking it’s just veneration.

Then maybe it’s good for BLM to pull down Washington statues.

“Mary was specially created in a state of sinlessness”

I was going to say, “You can’t make this stuff up.” But someone did make this stuff up. And Latria and Dulia.
Creative.

Are people worshiping or praying to the statues of Washington?

All I can say is I’ve never seen this happen...

It’s veneration. It all is. That’s why BLM is upset.

You know, many Christian sects dislike ANYof those “idols”. Period. To them. All statues are sacrilege.

People don’t pray that Mary will cure them. They talk to her and other saints asking for help praying to God. It’s really not much different from asking your friends and relatives to pray for you (and FReepers!).

I believe BLM wants to destroy the history of the country so that they can change it with no limits.

People don’t pray that Mary will cure them. They talk to her and other saints asking for help praying to God.

I would gently point out that there are no prayers in Scripture to anyone other than God - except the recorded prayers of those who worship other gods.

Also, I don't think you can generalize. Some worship Mary. Some idolize Mary. Some pray to Mary instead of God.

It’s really not much different from asking your friends and relatives to pray for you (and FReepers!).

It is in this sense. When you are physically talking or writing to someone, they hear/read you.

No where in Scripture are we told Mary or anyone other than God hears our prayers.

No where are we told to pray to anyone but God.

It is made up.

That said, it's a free country (for the time), so do as you will.

And I wish you the best.

From technical point of view... is Mary omniscient and omnipresent like God? If not, how does she hear hundreds of thousands/millions of concurrent prayers?

I think Mary is seen as a go-between. Some people are so awed or ashamed that they don’t feel they can pray to God directly and ask Mary to convey their prayers to God/Jesus. As a mother figure, she is more approachable for those who are weighed down by sin or humility.

Catholics do NOT worship the Virgin Mary. Period.

The Mother of God is venerated, not worshiped. She receives a degree of veneration higher than any other angel or saint, but worship is for God alone.

Why is this so hard to understand?

Mary has a savior. He saved her from the first moment of her conception.

She did need a Savior. And she has One! Don’t disrespect Christ’s finished work in Mary.

He saved her from the first moment of her conception.

Except never in Scripture - it is made up.

Scripture itself testifies that not everything is in Scripture.

“ Scripture itself testifies that not everything is in Scripture”

Scripture also teaches everything needed for salvation and Christian maturity is contained in Scripture.
