Officials admitted 77 inmates at a Fort Madison, Iowa prison were given overdoses of COVID-19 vaccine.
The dosages reportedly exceeded the amount recommended by the manufacturer.
Both Pfizer and the CDC said not to expect any major side effects.
WFIN reported:
(FORT MADISON, Iowa) — Dozens of inmates at an Iowa prison were given overdoses of a COVID-19 vaccine, officials said.
Two medical staff members from the Iowa Department of Corrections incorrectly administered the vaccine — developed by U.S. pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech — to 77 inmates at the Iowa State Penitentiary, a maximum-security prison for men located in Fort Madison, about 90 miles southeast of Iowa City. The dosages given exceeded the amount recommended by the vaccine manufacturer, according to Cord Overton, spokesperson for the Iowa Department of Corrections.

I’m betting this was no “mistake”......................
Especially in light of stuff like this: https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3953215/posts
I read a paper a few months ago about how the manufacturers develop a recommended dose. They test all sorts of high, very high, and low dosages together with single shots and multiple shots at various intervals. It was actually surprising how empirical the development of a recommended dose was.
Well, it’s about time they started experimenting on convicts!
Use it or lose it?
Isn’t this how “super villains” are created in the comics?

Be interesting to see what happens to them. If they all die of “natural causes” in the next couple years...
Dosages are really a ‘hit or miss’ proposition. I cannot imagine a small 4.9” - 120 pound person getting the same dose as a 6’5” - 250 pound person................
I’m betting some inmates and/or their families paid some people off with the promise of big money after the lawsuits are settled.
You mean like a ‘kickback’?................ I’m shocked!................
Another day, another vax oopsie.
Money lawsuits or get out of jail free cards.
“I read a paper a few months ago about how the manufacturers develop a recommended dose. They test all sorts of high, very high, and low dosages together with single shots and multiple shots at various intervals.”
And they will do that for the actual FDA approval process. For the Emergency use authorization, they blazed right through that with a -very- cursory study.
Any side effects?
Maybe this is a supervillain’s origin story?
Both Pfizer and the CDC said not to expect any major side effects.

And that statement is based on what science exactly?
Yes Moderna apparently erred on the side of efficacy over moderation. It’s 100mg worth of vaccine while Pfizer’s is 30mg.
I would prefer they be more moderate.
Also the 3-4 week interval between the 2 doses is only that way because that was the time they could afford given the tight clinical schedule they were on.
UK and Canada allows for up to 3-4 *months* between the 1st and 2nd dose.
What seems to always be lost in the discussion is the effectiveness per mg of vaccine. Does 100 mg of Moderna equal 30 mg of Pfizer in effectiveness?
In engineering terms, the word “specific” is used to normalize things so they can be properly compared.
