Do you know if an audio listening device exists that has a ubs port, thus bypassing the Iphone (which she doesn’t like) and Ipod?

If your speed is bad, go to a wireless hot spot in a mall or doctor office. A hotel lobby. Use the best login.

She’ll be stuck at home for a long time unless someone drives her to a doc appointment.

She told me after sending info I from this thread that she really would like a device that has usb port that she can directly listen to, not the Ipod or phone.

Does anyone know if such a device even exists?

Off the top of my head I don’t know of such a device, other than a computer or a television if she has a TV with USB ports. Maybe a year 2010 clock radio? A device like that may exist but it’s kind of old tech to stream or play directly from a USB drive. Most people stream from a device to bluetooth speakers, or to wired speakers plugged into the device that has the audio files.

But I’d bet some of the other posts above pointing to adapters would let you play from the USB directly through the phone or tablet.

If what you have is original audio (not copyrighted) you could in theory publish them and she could stream it off the web. You could also put them into a dropbox folder, and she can download them from dropbox (or similar not endorsing that particular website).

search for radio with usb port on amazon or bluetooth speaker many choices.

this one is cheap,

https://www.amazon.com/GESON-RM-155Pro-Portable-SupportMicro-Rechargeable/dp/B081W3224T/ref=sr_1_29?dchild=1&keywords=radio+with+usb+port&qid=1618176777&sr=8-29

this one is an example of a bluetooth speaker

but the controls would be poor

if it were me I would get raspberry pi and hack an old boombox

Or, you can get a free google drive storage account, and upload all of the files there, and then send your friend a link, to share the folder with her, and all files are displayable on a variety of devices. Google gives everyone a free 25 GB account, and you can purchase more storage for minimal cost. I use it to back up all my devices, nightly, and the good thing about uploading it to the cloud is that it will never get lost.

Google has made preparations in the event of a nuclear war, their cloud will be up and running. If you're worried about privacy, you can use something like winrar to encrypt all of your files, into a "zip-file_like" compressed file, using 256 bit AES encryption.

I searched for raspberry pi; I think perhaps beyond her capability to figure out at the moment. The first two links will probably work, thanks again.

Any audio device with a USB port including radios, stereos, and computers can play audio files from a stick. For porch listening I have a small (2” by 5”) am/fm radio with a built-in USB port. Works just fine. On my computer I have about 7,000 MP3 music files which can be played by almost any music program.

and newer computers don’t even have them, from what I’ve heard.

You've heard wrong. Computers have them, even many newer TVs have them. Tablets may not.

You do have to watch out because some of the newer devices use a USB-C instead of a standard USB port (although many have both). You can get various adapters to plug a USB into a USB-C hole.

Apple is into proprietary hardware, so they tend to not use industry standard connectors so they can charge more for parts.

Does she have a smart TV or a DVD BluRay with a USB jack? Some will play audio files depending on the format. The DVD players can be found for under $60. And you get the benefit of being able to play DVDs and BluRay.

There are devices on this list starting at about $25 that will play thumb (USB) drives. Watch for USB vs USB-C requirements.
