They ought to add the Articles of Confederation, seeing as that was our original constitution for more than a decade.

“to form a more perfect union” wasn’t a call for a moral crusade as some seem to imagine. It was an explanation by the Philadelphia convention of why they created a new governing document instead of merely revising the Articles.

Some prominent Founders were very unhappy with having the Constitution supersede the Articles; the Constitution created a far stronger central government, with the ability to impose taxes. Patrick Henry and George Mason were among the Antifederalists who opposed ratifying it.
