Moderna Inc, a biotechnology company pioneering messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutics and vaccines, today announced that the Company has shipped the 100-millionth dose of its COVID-19 vaccine to the U.S. Government. More than 67 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine have been administered in the U.S., according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“I would like to thank the millions of people who have put their confidence in Moderna’s science and our COVID-19 vaccine. We are encouraged by the fact that more than 67 million doses have been administered in the U.S....” said Stéphane Bancel, Chief Executive Officer of Moderna. “I would also like to thank the Moderna team, our suppliers and our U.S. manufacturing partners including Lonza and Catalent, for their tireless and extraordinary work in completing this important milestone.”
Moderna has increased its shipments to the U.S. government five-fold since receiving Emergency Use Authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on December 18, 2020, from more than 16 million doses in the fourth quarter of 2020 to 88 million doses to date for the first quarter of 2021. Monthly shipments to the U.S. government in the first quarter were 18 million doses in January, 26 million doses in February, and 44 million doses to date in March. Looking forward, the Company expects to ship 40-50 million doses per month to the U.S. Government to fulfill its commitments. All U.S. government supply comes from Moderna’s dedicated supply chain in the U.S.
The Company expects to meet its commitment dates to the U.S. Government for all currently ordered doses of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, including delivery of the second 100 million doses by the end of May 2021 and the third 100 million doses by the end of July 2021.

Wow, these mRNA vaccines were just sitting on the shelf, already experimentally tested in humans for safety... but waiting for the economic impetus to deploy them.
Still have worries about the mRNA platform’s use in the future, but that’s always a worry with new technology: all can be used for good or evil.
Anyway, despite general philosophical questions, this sure seems to be working out well!
My mom get the Moderna vaccine, second dose back in February. It’s some peace of mind, she’s looking forward to getting back to traveling with her friends.

Good news. I have administered hundreds of Moderna Vax shots. I haven’t had anyone tell me about horrible side effects. I think it’s the safest of the choices and one of the most effective. Moderna hit a home run and you can thank DJT for making it possible in such a timely manner.

I got my immunity the old fashioned way. All it cost was a few days in bed and some fine whiskey.

Sure, I guess it’s technically experimental, but the technology used isn’t.
Assuming (and prayerfully) these new mRNA kind of vaccines prove to be safe (and effective). They do appear to be effective at least in the short run. Long term safety? Nobody knows, alas, nobody can know this early.
I was waiting for the government to approve one of the traditional kinds of vaccines (such as the novavax which only injects the little exterior spores into you — no mRNA, no virus particles at all). Call me old-fashioned but I felt much safer with that approach. But, the feds did not say they were accepting the stage3 testing from the UK — and it will be another couple months until the USA Stage 3 testing is completed, reviewed, and presumably approved. So,, my doctor recommended I get the available (Phizer) mRNA vaccine. First dose went okay insofar immediate bad reactions (which was never my concern anyway). I am happy to have had an excellent doctor for many years. This is one of those rare cases where he recommended something I did not like — but there’s so much scare about this Coronia Virus and the hospital has lots of CV patients (and this hospital usually tosses you out the door about 5 minutes after you arise from heart surgery). So, I am getting the Phizer shots.
If anyone is still willing or interested in getting vaccinated and is not in a super=high risk group and does not meet many sick people and does not go into crowds....you may wish to ask your doctor about the novavax and also (not my first choice but anyway) the Johnson and Johnson adenovirus vector shot and any others he or she knows about. You might decide to wait a few (? — there’s the rub!) weeks for one of other vaccines that are expected to come on the market.
I am not a MD and cannot give any medical advice and do not know your situation anyway, so ask your doc. As for me, I just gave in is all. Waiting on the government is quite like Waiting for Godot, after all
That’s my eventual plan, minus the whiskey.

I eat healthy, exercise regularly, and get plenty of sleep.

From what I’ve read, safety and quality have been THE constraining critical path that limits the scaling up process. Nothing gets released until each batch has been absolutely determined to be pure and correct. “If in doubt, throw it out”.
