If we still had an operative Constitution they would need a Constitutional amendment to do this.
Murdock assumes an amendment is not needed.
Why don’t they just become part of Maryland?
That’s because we no longer have an operative Constitution.
If it was intended to be a state, they would have made it a state.
Make them pay their own local government expenses then.
Or return the land to Maryland just as the Virginia side was returned to Virginia.
No one is making them live there. If they feel they aren’t being treated fairly then move.
Free them from federal taxes? Screw that. Just ban all living quarters in the district and make it a giant park. Let them all move to nearby existing states if it is so important for them to live in a state.
Exactly. Let them vote as part of Maryland, where the land came from initially.
D.C. Statehood: Not Without a Constitutional Amendment
We have nothing to fear. The Supreme Court will save us, just like they did with the Obamacare issue, and all the accusations of vote fraud from the 2020 "election". /s
As much as adding another sewer line would destroy the cesspool they call Maryland (I live here) absorbing the city of Washington, not including the official section makes far more sense than making it another state
Eliminating the living areas is doable. Then there’s the SCOTUS. A different group would allow statehood. Perhaps entire cabinet departments should be moved. Congress could have their sessions in rotating cities just like the NFL draft when they got smart.
The federal capitol has no right to statehood as it would assert itself as first among the states.
No state wants to grovel before this self appointed entity. That is why they approved a neutral zone for the federation known as the United States.
Only in the fevered mind of a leftist could a single city be considered for statehood.

Yep, they should go back to Maryland just as the part from Virginia went back to that State years ago. But, of course, that wouldn’t give the DemocRATS two bonus US Senate seats so they don’t want that solution.
If they really want to get the vote, whatever worth it is now, then let them re-join Maryland, That may? give Maryland on congressional vote. No senators, actually 2 less votes for president.
That would be fair. The land used to belong to Maryland and was ceded to federal gov. There was Virginia part of DC, that was returned to VA a long time ago.
