The city council wants desperately to see Chauvin convicted. It has an ideological stake in that outcome. In addition, it hopes to avoid the rioting that would likely accompany an acquittal.

Of course there would be rioting following an acquittal. What the council members don't seem to comprehend is that immediately following any conviction there will be victory celebrations that will degenerate into riots.

He blew his chance to flee.

Listen up cops. You have 24 hours or less to hit the road after an incident like this. You’re a cop. Be prepared. Go the the Mexican side of town and spend a thousand bucks and get a new Birth Certificate, SSN card, and a Passport... put it in a bag with a couple of thousand cash and have some bitcoin.

When you become the flavor of the month, go down to the truck stop, put your cell phone on an eastbound semi trailer, then you go west. Don’t hang around for a Roland Friesler trial.

Head for the Yukon, go South till you meet people speaking German, grow a beard and flip burgers in Oregon.
Maybe if you’re young enough, go join the Legion. But DON’T be like this fella and wind up a political prisoner for decades, or even the rest of your life.
Trials conducted by the junta government are no place for your momma’s boy to be.

Doesn’t something like this usually happen after the trial concludes?????
Why the rush?
Looks like an admission of guilt by the police department.

How much of this extortion payout was covered by state bailouts in the joke of a “stimulus” package Biden just signed? (OUR tax money.)

$27M. Because he had a promising future as a rap star, NBA forward and a research biochemical engineer.

Grounds for appeal if convicted. Change of venue is required.

Move it to a heavily hispanic or asian community.

A fair trial is not the objective. We’ll soon have multiple trials of the Jan 6th prisoners. It’s going be quite a show.

In addition, it hopes to avoid the rioting that would likely accompany an acquittal.

No matter what happens, their will be riots, looting and arson. They fact that they don't realize that is very clear to any same person.

Career criminal high on enough fentanyl to literally kill a male gorilla, maybe even a horse dies while being arrested for passing phony money gets paid $27M?

Put a fork in this country folks. It’s finished. Republics don’t survive this kind of BS. Even empires don’t survive this kind of stuff.

“The interest of justice carries no weight for the council. Fairness for a civil servant who helped protect public safety in the city counts for nothing.”

Problem is...these civil servants have guns, can legally carry them, and have a great deal of training in their use. Ditto for the armed forces.

Mao once said: “Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”

He meant that, at very bottom, the state has the ability to use raw force to ensure compliance with its dicta and, if necessary, ensure its existence. It has, as a function of government, already organized, equipped, and trained that force.

That force, in its various forms, serves because it believes that it is serving the greater public good DESPITE being exposed to very real danger on a frequent or daily basis and DESPITE frequently being underpaid and overworked.

What happens when the political power begins to actively despise that force?

What happens when the political power begins to actively undermine the work the force has been asked to undertake on its behalf?

At some point, the deal breaks down.

If you think the rioters can be intimidating, you have no idea what intimidation is until the police and armed forces turn on you.

As events of the last year have shown, politicians are, for the most part, cowards. It wouldn’t take much violence, just a few salient examples here and there, if done correctly...

Pray that politicians, especially left/liberal politicians, come to their senses and it never comes to that.
