I bought a charging handle and bolt that turns my AR15 into a bolt action. It’s no longer a scary “black assault weapon.” That’s fine for the range and any idiot wanting to look at it. Plus I can add whatever I want to a bolt action weapon.

The old handle and CBG fall back into it in 6 seconds. I timed it.

The side charging uppers are real easy to convert to manual bolt action. The only objection I have to that approach is the gas block/gas tube is delivering a squirt of dirty gas that isn't going into the gas key on the BCG. That will get the action dirty fairly quickly. The 9mm uppers don't use a gas tube. Simple blowback.
