Why? Or, better yet, why now?
The sequel never answers either question, nor does it deliver anything like the laughs generated by the 1988 original. It’s powered by some charming players and fits of inspiration which never coalesce into anything real. At its worst, it piles on the woke platitudes and reheats the better gags from the original film.
Why bother?

I knew we had an issue when I saw this one was rated PG-13.
A sequel that comes out more than 3 decades after the original is bound to be cringe, even if the political and social atmospheres hadn’t become so toxic. This looks as bad as the Ghostbusters reboot, though I must admit that’s a harsh comparison.
I ain’t falling for no banana in no tailpipe.
i watched coming to america to get ready for the sequel. it was full of stereotypical humor and the deprication of black people. nice varying roles for eddie and arsenio, bare breasts for the 14 year old male in all of us, but not very funny.
It’s not funny..Just watched(free) and it doesn’t even come close to the first one..
Thank you for taking that particular bullet. I’m sure I will end up seeing it at some point, but I’m in no hurry. The trailers look unfunny, and those clips are usually carefully chosen. Ugh.
Not funny one bit and I have always been a fan of Eddie Murphy....and according to the movie, I didn’t realize Obama united America and now we have Nazi’s (barbershop scene). Read an interview with both Arsenio and Eddie saying paramount forced them to hire a white actor for the original.....oh the inhumanity....
I kept asking myself why Murphy would make such a cringe-worthy movie deprecating his culture...it wasn't funny to me, and I also kept thinking how insulting it would be if I were black.
UGH!
When they play the original on TV, you never see the scene at the beginning where the Prince wakes up and is “tended to” in his Bath.
As an aside, whenever you listen to the Dire Straits Song “Money for Nothing” nowadays, even on SiriusXM, an entire Verse is missing.
To think the Left went bonkers when Ted Turner started Colorizing old Black and White Movies.
I noticed they cropped out the line in the song just recently. Either the grouped caved to the pressure after they got into the R&R Hall of Fame or Sirius did their own edit.
I remember when that song was released and skyrocketed up the charts. I was wondering what would happen to it in today's Woke Age and now I found out.
The offending Verse:
See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup
Yeah buddy, that’s his own real hair
That little faggot got his own jet airplane
The little faggot, he’s a millionaire
I think Mark Knopfler approved of the omission. Such a shame.

Interesting. I recently heard Rapper’s Delight on Sirius and to my surprise they left intact the verse about Superman that goes, “He’s a fairy, I do suppose, flying through the air in panty hose.” How transphobic!
The new ‘Walker: Texas Ranger’ sucks too.
The new, Superman and Lois is great. Tried Walker, but it was ponderous. I LOVE Wynnona Earp.
They did the same thing to Van Morrison, Brown Eyes Girl.
Doug Wimbish played bass on Wrappers. He plays in Living Colour now.
Comedians aren’t allowed to be funny anymore...
