“Silver Biotics (gel and liquid). Watch out for price gouging! Sellers and perhaps manufacturers are taking advantage of the times we find ourselves in. I as well as family and friends wouldn’t be caught without many of the products including the lozenges.”
I just wave a dead chicken around. It’s a lot cheaper and it works just as well.
Good luck getting through it. One of my parents had it twice, the other 3 times, though each time it was less severe.
I got the Zostavax vaccine (prior to Shingrix)... a year later I had shingles on one side of my face, into my scalp and over part of my eyelid, but fortunately not in my eye. I think the vaccine wasn’t a total waste in that I believe it helped reduce the amount of pain that I had. Still wasn’t fun.
Thank you for that link. It’s very interesting!
I had a chickenpox vaccination as an adult, but it doesn’t help since I had chickenpox when I was a kid and I think it is not effective against shingles. Since I got shingles many years after the chickenpox vaccine...
Good for you. I on the other hand use what works for me and my family. . . including my 13 year old beagle that was almost mauled to death 9 years ago.
I take a very strong and complete multivitamin that contains 100% of your daily requirement of Zn and I take D3 separately. Between the 2 pills, that's 4000 iu of D daily. I think it helps.
Shingles is certainly far more prevalent than it was back in the “good old” chicken pox days. I had thought the chicken pox and shingles vaccines might somehow be contributors to it, but never in the way that this article suggests!
Had the two shot variant last spring from VA. This winter I came down with a severe case that lasted two months. That has determined my stance on the Wuhan Flu shot. I have not had a flu shot since I retired and have never had the flu for 10 years. I would come down with the flu every time the Army stabbed me. You can take your chances but I am wary. I would nave not taken the shingles vaccine but the old hide laid her foot down then told me not to blame her for contracting shingles.
Don't mind getting sick (rarely do), but I am "pain averse" - have seen too many people in shingles agony.
Not me, man.
“I got my flu shot in November, but my doctor advised against the shingles vaccine at this time because it causes a fever for awhile.”
2 years ago I got my first shingles shot and my wife got hers a day late.
The RN, whom, my wife, knew advised us to get the 2nd shots a couple of weeks apart. She said that sometimes the 2nd shot had some severe side effects.
Since I was the oldest, I went first. The next day I had a minor fever that lasted about 2 weeks.
I felt like I had been gang tackled. I had blood in my urine, I couldn’t smell anything nor taste anything. Our PPO basically ran every test known to man. Nothing organic was a problem.
Thanksgiving dinner at one of our local sons was a short and miserable time for me. I barely ate and didn’t want any left overs.
For about 4 weeks, all I wanted to do was snack a little and sleep.
We had Christmas dinner here so I wouldn’t have to ride/drive. I was still feeling like a bus had ran over me.
After Christmas, I was on the road to recovery.
Looking back, one of my sons got a “flu” that lasted 4 weeks, and he lost 35 pounds and had no appetite, sense of smell and had lower GI problems after our Thanksgiving. Our grandson had a mild case of whatever and went back to college shortly after New Years. None of the women had any problems.
This happened in the N. California area, when, we didn’t know about Covid 19. However, people who donated blood in this area at that time had this virus in their blood. We knew a few guys our age, who had a similar crud. One of them labeled the crud as the AT&T/Comcast crud as we had no contact with each other except online.
That son asked his PPO doctor (also my doctor) what he had.
The doctor, who was our doctor before going to the PPO told my son, that he apparently had whatever I had. Some type of flu.
Later in March 2020, we learned about Covid 19. Then later about its early visit to the San Francisco Bay area in Nov/Dec 2019, before it was “discovered” in early 2020.
Mom had shingles many decades ago. It left scarring on her back till the day she died, 2 years ago.
I got the 2 shot vaccine.
Shingles vaccines don’t cover all strains. You can still get Shingles even after a shot.
Do your own due diligence.
Still not sure I DON’T have atypical shingles, or post-herpetic pain.
Wasn’t quite 50 and I’ve wanted the shot. Now I don’t know if I should if it turns out I’m suffering from some shingles issue.
Oh, and don’t forget about the COVID shot! LOL
Lost the entire rest of month and 1st two weeks of February.
It inflamed my entire spinal cord and triggered several herniated discs between my shoulder blades and lumbar area.
But, I'd do it again rather than deal with Shingles.
Interesting, so according to the article older people should go to chicken pox parties once in a while if they dont want shingles
Thank you for the reminder. I have been in the same mode of postponing it, and now thinking I should get it “soon”, so maybe I’ll try to get one at Walgreen’s tomorrow.
I recently had a bad case of Shingles.
It lasted 7 weeks. I still have discolored scars.
And it was the worst experience of my life. Pain beyond anything I thought possible.
But you said all that happened 2 years ago...like 2018-2019. Wouldn’t that be far too early?
Yikes. Sounds like your experience with the shingles vaccine was as bad as (if not worse than) getting shingles!
I’ve had shingles as well as three vaccine shots (one of the first version, and two of the Shingrex which is more effective).
