B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber: The Air Force’s Ultimate Weapon
19FortyFive ^ | 2/22/2021 | Peter Suciu

The B-2 Spirit is the United States Air Force’s only stealth bomber in service today. It has remained in service because it can do things other aircraft simply can’t do. Since its introduction in 1997, the Northrop Grumman B-2 has often been the first to fight. It is also the only acknowledged aircraft that can carry large air-to-surface standoff weapons in a stealth configuration. The B-2 can carry up to sixteen B-61 or megaton-yield B-83 nuclear gravity bombs on the rotary launchers inside its two bomb bays. The aircraft’s avionics are even hardened versus the electromagnetic pulses generated by nuclear blasts.

“In high school, I had the privilege of seeing a B-52 fly over at no more than 500 feet...”

When I was in Kindergarten or 1st grade a B-36 flew over the school very low—shook the earth. But I can’t top my mom’s flyover. As a girl in N.J. she saw the Hindenburg flying to/from Lakehurst.

Correction, not the Hindenburg, but the Graf Zeppelin.

The B-1 is the most awesome bird in our inventory. It just says F*** you, we’ll decimate your ass. Personally been close to one of them, I had a strange sense to salute.

Any air force guys have insight on how a billion dollar bomber is secured on the ground? Whats to keep a hostile from taking one out from the weeds with a stinger type setup?

B-52s may not be stealthy but to do get noticed when flying over to the Persian Gulf and back home.

So the physics used in 1997 are obsolete today? Ever heard of AHFM? You may want to read up on it. They all have it now.

Lucky you, what a lasting impression. I always wanted to fly a b-52. I made an exotic fuel system once many years ago (1995) with a b-52 pump that became X-files legend, lol.

Stealth is great but stealth in 1997 is obsolete now.

Bill Whittle discusses the venerable B 52 extension of service.

B 52 can stay in service until 1997

Let’s see... Maybe a classic movie, one with lots of memorable one-liners...

Working on it...

“You can’t fight here, this is the war room!”

“You’re gonna answer to the Coca-Cola company.”

“Communist plot to sap and impurify our precious bodily fluids!”

“Mein Fuhrer! I can valk!”

Hmmm... Still working on it...

My older staff have no problem, which then leads us into other Dr. Strangelove trivia

Shoot, a fella could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that.

No, I mean when they tortured you. Did you talk?

Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Ah, oh, no... well, I don't think they wanted me to talk really. I don't think they wanted me to say anything. It was just their way of having a bit of fun, the swines. Strange thing is they make such bloody good cameras.

Man that is for sure. B-1 has that same mojo that the F-4 had back in the day, except more.

B-2, or not B-2? That is the question. Whether it is nobler....

“... the B-2 can carry two 30,000lb GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators (likely two for balance).

The B2’s have been vastly upgraded since 2006.

The aircraft is capable of carrying 40,000 lb (18,000 kg) of ordnance. Nuclear ordnance includes the B61 and B83 nuclear bombs; the AGM-129 ACM cruise missile is also in use on the B-2 platform. The craft features a sophisticated GPS-Aided Targeting System (GATS) that uses the aircraft’s APQ-181 synthetic aperture radar to map out targets prior to deployment of GPS-aided bombs (GAMs), later superseded by the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM). In the B-2’s original configuration, up to 16 GAMs or JDAMs could be deployed an upgrade program in 2006 which raised the maximum carriable capacity to 80 JDAMs.

The B-2 has various conventional weapons in its arsenal, able to equip Mark 82 and Mark 84 bombs, CBU-87 Combined Effects Munitions, GATOR mines, and the CBU-97 Sensor Fuzed Weapon. B-2 is compatible with the equipment necessary to deploy the 30,000 lb (14,000 kg) Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP), which is intended to attack reinforced bunkers; up to two MOPs could be equipped in the B-2’s bomb bays with one per bay. The B-2 is the only platform compatible with the MOP as of 2012. The AGM-158 JASSM cruise missile is an additional standoff munition deployed on the B-2 and other platforms. This will shortly be followed by the Long Range Standoff Weapon (LRSO) which may give the B-2 a standoff nuclear capability for the first time with the AGM-86 ALCM.

This one has got a future with all the possibilities that are being installed. We right now only have 21 of them. Could use more.

Ain’t it great to know that Kamala Harris is a heartbeat away from being in complete control of these?

Gosh America is Great!

A poor immigrant slut can rise up to be Leader of the Free World in Waiting and have her very own nooklear arsenal!

Better then having an open ended Prada account!
