Comment, though: Valley Forge is a bit overrated. As to importance and “severity”. You want bad winters, look up both Morristown encampments. The best thing about VF was that von Steuben came and set things right. Then they proved his training at Monmouth.
Turns out VF is one of the oldest parks for the RevWar. Likely they have been promoting for more than a century and got a lot of people to believe all that about how bad the winter was (eh), and provisions, etc. Make no mistake: SUPPLIES WERE ALWAYS A PROBLEM FOR THE REBELS. VF is no different.
