Michigan State Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey was caught on camera telling officials from the Hillsdale County Republican Party that the Capitol takeover was “staged” and a “hoax.”
In the footage, which is over an hour long, Shirkey also says that Mitch McConnell “was part of it… They wanted to have a mess” so that they could impeach Donald Trump.
The video was posted on YouTube by Hillsdale County Republican Party Secretary Jon Smith, who is upset with Shirkey for repeatedly caving to Democrats.
During the conversation, Shirkey says that the January 6 protest “wasn’t Trump people.”
“That’s been a hoax from day one, that was all pre-arranged,” Shirkey adds, asserting that the people “went in on separate buses, that was all arranged by somebody that was funding everyone.”

If anyone doesn’t see where we stand at this point, they are willfully ignorant.
Wouldn’t that make McConnell and others who plotted responsible for the deaths?
This also means McConnell has blood on his hands for the murder of Ashli Babbitt and the other deaths, not Trump.
Whatever happened at the Capitol, Mitch hates Trump and hates us. He wants to be head of the minority party while no one notices he doesn’t want the senate to be GOP. He wants the Dems to do his dirty work as always

I'm sure there were plenty of folks fleeing the capital grounds at the same time.
In all the videos, I don't see throngs of folks in the capital building...there's air all around them. Tiny parades of 20 or 30 folks just wandering through the halls.
The only injury within the capital was the "kill shot" made by an over exuberant officer at a woman climbing through a window.

I don’t get McConnell. He obviously doesn’t like trump. Yet he sat on the impeachment .... I guess to make Schumer responsible for the trial. Then he voted not to impeach..... then trashed trump.
I think a lot of repubs would have convicted..... But they are literally, physically scared of the 75 million. Scared..... and rightfully so.
A lot of people lack the foresight to think ahead.
He and those who were in on this should be removed from their positions and charged.
No fan of Shirkey, for sure..but he just redeemed himself a tiny bit with calling it as he sees it here..
And in all likelihood, he’s probably right.
There is so much BS going on in Washington that I can beleive it.

Not just his rant, but the fact that it took him all of 5 seconds after the vote to do it.
I suspect the plan was to stage the incident (why else have velvet ropes and police waving the protesters in), make Trump look ‘violent’, and then be done with Trump, once and for all.
What they didn’t expect was the Impeachment. The Dems hadn’t discussed that prospect, but when they saw what could be made of it, the Dems went forward. Then Roberts told them to take a hike, but the Dems were stuck with the Impeachment. So McConnell freed up a couple of extra votes to give them cover and that was it. But Trump is still alive and kicking and he may well have had enough of the Republican Party.
Sometimes it doesn’t pay to try to be so cute, especially when it comes to using crowds as political tools...and now I expect the GOP to basically be through as a political party, and not a day too soon.
