A campaign to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom officially reached its 1.5 million signature requirement. The deadline for signature collection is March 17.
Organizers for “Recall Gavin 2020” said Friday they have surpassed the 1.5 million signatures required to place the proposal on this year’s ballot. The signatures still need to be verified. Once verified and approved, the recall election would happen sometime over the summer according to the local San Diego station ABC News 10.
California’s GOP representative Kevin Kiley tweeted late last night that everything is official:
Although Gov. Newsom’s performance with respect to the pandemic has been the primary push for his recall, Orrin Heatlie, who’s leading the campaign told CBS13 in Sacramento: “There are a lot of things that have driven the recall forward.”
Heatlie added that business owners and senior citizens are two of the biggest groups supporting the campaign.
A UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies survey found that Gov. Newsom slumped to just 46 percent of voter approval.
That compares with 60 percent backing just four months ago.
“Thirty-six percent of voters say they would vote ‘yes’ to recall the governor and 45 percent would vote ‘no’ to keep him in office,” poll director Mark DiCamillo told KNX 1070 News. “But a very large 19 percent said they were not sure and that includes 20 percent of Democrats and 28 percent of no party preference voters, so I think a number of voters are just waiting to see how things play out.”
Earlier this week, President Joe Biden said he opposes the effort to recall Governor Gavin Newsom. In a tweet, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki noted that Biden and Newsom share interests in addressing the climate crisis and the coronavirus pandemic.
Recall adviser Randy Economy says interest is higher since it was revealed Newsom dined with friends at an opulent restaurant while telling state residents to stay home and not socialize.
With the elections closing in no one has talked about who will replace him.
My wife and I signed the recall and got 6 other people to sign. Doin what we can. Sigh.
Like New York.
In unrelated news, Newsom buys dominion voting machines.
I heard one of the organizers say he’d like to see 1.8 mil. signatures because he expects “shenanigans”......no doubt there will be.
Need to watch those Dominion machines closely. Assuming those machines will be used. Unsolicited mail ins being used????
Since when are democraps interested in signature verification?
They wanted nothing to do with it during the Presidential election..
“ The election will happen in the summer! Then who they gonna replace Newsom with? No one has talked about who he’s be replaced with. In any case, this should inspire other states to follow this example! ”

Saw a lady on tv this morning who’s affiliated with the recall movement who stated they need about 1.8M signatures to ensure they have enough. I’m all for the recall but we know how this story ends; idiot California voters will elect another idiot to replace idiot Newsom. And so it goes, never changes ...
I don’t see the point, there is a 100% chance someone worse gets elected if Newsom is recalled.
Randy Economy?
Does someone know the actual mechanics of the recall process in CA?
If he is recalled by the vote, does he step down immediately?
If so, who becomes the acting Gov.
Is there an election to replace him?
If so, when will that take place?
I better not see Newsom trying to verify any of those signatures - that’s racist!
That will free him up to campaign 24/7 for 2024.
Can’t you just see a Cuomo/Newsom ticket for that race?
Slogan “We protected you then, we’ll protect you again!”
Good job!
“The signatures still need to be verified.”
Why do I think that the Democrats and their judges will now be ‘pro-verification’ of signatures? Perhaps I’m overstepping here, a bit?
It’s a two question ballot
1. Should Newsome be recalled?
Yes or no
If he
2. Who is your for governor?
If one is yes then the. Ames in two from what I understand becomes a jungle general.
The thing I am not sure about is if no one gets 50% and the recall question carries is there a run off or is it top vote getter period. One time deal. I think it’s the latter but don’t quote me on that.
I’m just starting the beginning of Bannon’s War Room this morning and he said that Rick Grenell said he’s throwing his hat in.
When Gov. Grey/Gray was recalled, the ballot also contain a list of candidates to vote for a replacement gov. in case the recall is successful and that’s how they got Gov. Arnold. Guess the same process will be in play as the LtGov is being vocal that no democrats should run on the ballot which is fine as Newsom will more than likely go down in flames this summer.
November 3 ballots need only be printed out and submitted in convenient 500-count reams of paper. All identically filled out, just for convenience.
