Canceling the Keystone pipeline has everything to do with virtue signalling, and nothing to do with actually reducing carbon emissions, because the cancellation will actually cause emissions to go up, not down

Canceling the Keystone pipeline has everything to do with virtue signalling, and nothing to do with actually reducing carbon emissions, because the cancellation will actually cause emissions to go up, not down
A new report shows that canceling the Keystone pipeline will cause carbon dioxide emissions to go up by the equivalent of putting 490,000 more cars on the road. This is because without the pipeline, the oil will be transported by train, which burns fossil fuels.
In other words, canceling the Keystone pipeline has everything to do with virtue signalling, and nothing to do with actually reducing carbon emissions.

Dan missed the boat! Oil which would have gone to Texas refineries via the pipeline is likely to be diverted to China. This is far from being a case of virtue signalling.

Not to mention destroying tens of thousands of jobs and pissing off the Canadians, driving up the price of oil and making the Iranian terrorist regime really happy.
And that's just for starters.

I said the same thing when I first heard the news. Diverted to China via pipelines and rail to Vancouver B.C.

It also has nothing to do with safety.
A buried pipe line is much less vulnerable than a string of rail cars.

the best way to promote renewable energy is to outlaw fossil fuels; or at least drive them out of business.

Canceling the Keystone pipeline has everything to do with destroying America... Exactly.
A serious blow to the American Economy, and any trust in the American government or the rule of law.
A great gift to the Russians because it increases the price of oil.
A great gift to the Chinese, because it makes America more dependent on oil from overseas.
A fantastic gift to Warren Buffet, as he has major holdings in the railroad and railroad car company that will continue to transport oil in unsafe, more expensive ways.

One went by my house last week, heading for the refineries in Texas. On the Kansas City Southern Line. Over a hundred oil tankers, pulled by Canadian Pacific engines.

Beat me to it. Worry over carbon emissions had no part in that decision. It was all about crippling the oil production industry.
