Although I know little about Israeli politics it would certainly appear as if their leftist parties have taken a page or two from the Rat Party’s playbook.
I’m not particularly a Bibi fan, although he is, by far, the best choice of those likely to be able to run.

The last PM Israel sent to prison was Olmert, a liberal.
During Olmert's first trial Netanyahu was serving as the leader of Likud and was the vocal leader of the movement for Olmert to resign the premiership because he could not serve the needs of the Israeli people while defending himself against criminal indictment.
Olmert resigned. In 2009.
