Lorrain Taylor lost her twin sons to gun violence in Oakland, California, in 2000. They were just 22 years old and working their way through college when they were killed.
“We are here to say, ‘No, no more senseless violence,’” Taylor said at the launch Friday of Voices of Black Mothers United, an initiative of the Woodson Center, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit.

unrelated to this the subject of this thread... but still... why does 13% of the population have such an overwhelming and outsized influence on our policy and culture?

Sadly the public has no idea just how bad the situation is in minority, urban areas. The cops are not fools. They know the politicos and the bosses appointed by them do not have their backs. They are simply not doing effective, anti crime policing in minority areas. If there is a murder, the investigation merely notes the time, place, idenity of the victim and some perfunctionary, brief investigation. Almost none of these cases are closed by police. The victim’s family only gets solace with “street justice” which results in even more violence and killing. Cops are observing that first and most important dictim of police. Do your shift, get paid and at the end of the shift go home to your home and family.
DUH! It doesn’t take a murdered child to know this.
This is nothing more than a masked effort at gun grabbing.
B.S. about the cops not caring. When all of the witnesses “did’nt see nothin’” and are intimidated by the suspects, usually gang bangers, it is very difficult to put a case together.
Gun violence, eh? Those nasty guns just went out all by themselves and shot those two young men.
The answer is a gun in every household to enforce the safety of the families.
Maybe we should do more to glorify gangster rap, drug dealing and violence in the Black Community??
At 22, you’re done with college unless you’re going to grad school.

I don’t think the Woodson center is filled with gun grabbers. They seem to me to be a common sense right leaning group.
Ladies’, the people on your side of the political aisle don’t care.
You have have always been expendable, you will always be expendable to these people.
You only matter to them because they know that they can whip up your rage easily.
Sorry Black mothers, it’s not about you. It’s about overthrowing the country.
