The days are numbered for our carriers as our Capital ships. We are going through the same strategic conflict that we went through during the lead up to WWII. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor resolved the debate and answered the question whether the Battle Ship or the Carrier should be the centerpiece of a battle fleet going forward.
