I’ve often doubted the nuclear football’s existence anyway. I hope we don’t have such a visible and popularly known device that can keep our nuclear missiles disabled if someone snatches it.

It doesn’t. The football is just to speed the process while the president is not in the White House. At this point I’m not even sure it matters. The world is so connected. Back when the president could be unable to communicate for hours during various types of travel it made sense.

I think that the football no longer exists in a form that we the public can identify. sort of like the geen briar no longer being an emergency shelter for government. to many people became aware of its existance and tech changed enough that somting beter was done to handle the job.

Clear as day in the Reagan assaination attempt photos. It was cuffed to a uniformed military man’s hand. He was face down on the sidewalk next a cop who was shot and killed that day.
