Good point. I think you’re on point with that.
I have and have friends that are prepared for whatever comes our way. I think we’re at least a year off from any real conflict on the ground here in America. Our government knows what is coming however, that’s why they’ve surrounded DC with razor wire and thousands of troops.
It’s unfortunate that the troops for the most part are the indoctrinated that have been coming out of high school the last decade or so, joining the military for GI bill benefits.
Military leaders know that if they place troops outside areas where they’ve grown up the likelihood of those troops firing on American citizens goes up. For instance, someone from the Southeast would be placed in the Midwest or Western US. They’ll readily kill an American upon command.

The acronym departments of our government have already labeled the maga people as domestic terrorists versus Antifa and BLM so the sides have already been broadcast.
Plant a garden this spring and continue reloading over the winter.

"Too fat to fight"

When I first saw the headline I thought the story was referring to Stacey Abrams.

[W]asn’t it Dan Rather reporting that the Abrams would break down in the desert ...

Could have been but he was by no means alone in his 'expertise'! I remember a litany of Casandras that pointed to Iraq being the world's 3rd largest military, armed with top Soviet armament, winner of the Iran-Iraq War etc. One such 'expert' in my memory even postulated that the US Military knew it would be defeated! His logic? That they took 'body bags' with them for the overwhelming casualties!

Is there a modern version of a panzerfaust like an RPG that would take out an Abrams?

Was the scene in “Fury” with the Hitler youth taking out the Sherman with the young Lt. using a Panzerfaust realistic?

The big brains never think of that.
They think their vehicles run forever or fix themselves.
Without a four man crew, the only way fix a thrown track is to stop TWO M-1s to have their crews work together, or have a support unit move forward to fix the tank, exposing it to enemy fire.
When we move to remotely controlled or autonomous AFVs, we’ll need a second echelon of humans to quickly recover, triage, and return to service the ones that break down - probably while under fire. That will be crappiest job in the Army...

The old Copperhead missiles will kill an Abrams. So will a Javelin. You can also de-track a tank and effectively take it out of the game.

Copperheads hop up and then plunge down into the top of the turret. Considered obsolete, but they’re nonetheless effective.

In fact, because they are old, the likelihood of a non-peer adversary getting them is higer.

You need fairly hefty ATGM to punch a hole in a modern tank. That said, a team of 4-6 can carry and set it up.

The scene in Fury with Panzerfaust was pretty realistic. Panzefausts had larger, heavier warheads than bazookas and were more lethal. They could take out any Western tank and most Soviet tanks.

The Abrams needs to be simplified for the influx of transgender recruits so they can service and repair the tank,as well as operate it.

No war is ever like the "last war".

Weapons evolve, technology has transformed ideas from "tank vs tank" to MOAB vs everything.

God forbid if the nukes ever got into the fray.

One US nuclear sub, the USS Alaska, could destroy Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, "Pokisthan", and many of Russia's major population sites.

However, the repercussions would be so severe, that no one can even envision such things.

Our internal war game's players do this all day, every day, and it's probably why they are certifiable.

I cannot imagine a world after major nuclear conflict, and I know that I wouldn't want to be a short term survivor.

They need to be in the rear, heels up, squirting out more infantry replacements.

Oh my, kamala's kalvary is going to get you for that remark.

They will give you a scrotum slashing that will change both your gender and your manly mind.

Tsk,tsk, tsk.

The recent conflict in Azerbagani demonstrated that armor did not do well against modern well armed drones. It would be wise for the US to have war games evaluating the Abrams tank against the Israeli made drones that decimated the Armenian armor.
___________________________________________________________
What kind of armor are you talking about? The next level of M1 development may very likely be armored with a 130mm main gun, a drone, active defense, light weight Armour and an uprated engine. It may be equipped with an auto-loader and AI control for fully autonomous action.
And how about a vertical launch missile system with short range missiles? The thing is that the hulls are fully reusable and degradable to eliminate deficiencies and develop new weapons and control. You would have to match that technology in 2021 dollars in a shrinking economy. The modified M1 we can afford not something built by Lockheed Martin.

The size of the gun on that Stryker makes it look like the recoil would turn the vehicle right over. For the crew pickling a round must be a traumatic experience.

I suppose we can get an All Tranny Brigade that faux-menstrates like women but fight like men.

I can see them coming down the hill like Captain Stillman’s troops at the obstacle course in Stripes.

Of course there were plusses and minuses to to both sides, but I came down firmly on the side of the four man crew.
Future MBTs will likely have a 130mm main gun or larger, and will get to the point where they need an autoloader. They’d still be smart to somehow work a fourth crew member into the design.

In a protracted operation, even in a static defense, somebody needs to pull radio watch and security. A fourth crew member in that rotation means that each person gets more sleep. No matter how good the design, a tank in rough terrain will sooner or later throw track, and righting that situation is not done without having people outside the vehicle exerting a lot of muscle power. Three people doing that instead of four is very problematic, especially when you want one on top manning the .50 or need one in the driver’s hole to creep the vehicle back and forth to set the track.
