The Teachers’ Unions’ Ransom Demand
National Review ^ | 1/26/2021 | Editorial

Posted on 01/27/2021 5:04:37 AM PST by Onthebrink

In Chicago, the teachers’ union voted to reject the city’s reopening schedule, demanding that its members continue to work remotely until all of the city’s educators have been vaccinated, which might well mean that students would still be out of the classroom until the spring semester of 2022 or later. District leaders have described the union’s position of militant noncompliance as an “illegal strike,” which is what it amounts to and how it should be treated.

Life is grand and easy if you’re a Chicago teacher.

Why pay property taxes if the teachers aren’t working?

The Chicago school board should fire and replace teachers like Ronald Reagan did to the air controllers. I don’t think it is impossible to hire enough substitutes to open the classrooms. School achievement is so low in the urban schools, no one would notice the difference between substitutes and the union teachers.

Where is the Republican Opposition to this ??

Oh that’s right, silent as usual....when there is no political pressure to act, crap like this happens...

Just imagine school children going 2 years without going into a class room...a kid in the 3rd grade should probably start over again in the 1st grade, unfortunately that won’t happen, kids in Chicago and elsewhere will be educationally deformed an unlikely to ever recover...

Fairfax County Virginia put the Teachers at the head of the line for the ‘shot’ and once administered (round one) they declared they aren’t going back to the classroom until MAYBE the Fall but then ONLY if and they listed some ‘demands’.

Since the ‘teachers’ think this virtual learning is so great why isn’t the ‘Fed etal’ looking at ways to do virtual with NO or very little human involvement.

When the ‘fast food workers’ get rebellious, the powers that be either introduce robots or at least get some kind of robotic ‘worker’ on the drawing board.

Guess the next ‘Union’ to get really into our face will be the Police/Fire.

Some have been saying since day one that PUBLIC EMPLOYEES being unionized is disastrous.

I have a feeling ‘we ain’t seen nothing yet’ once the other ‘public servants’ see how easy it is to tell us to go ‘F off’ and continue to pay us while ‘we’ do little or nothing....

“Biden’s $130 billion is basically a ransom payment. In a sane world, local officials and voters around the country would be wondering how exactly they allowed themselves to be put into the position of depending on a government-fortified monopoly for K–12 education, and considering what might be done about that situation.”

And, Biden has made it clear that his administration will do all it can to abolish Right To Work policies in all states making compulsive unionism the standard. The example of school teachers provides a perfect example of how that will work out.

Where do you expect the city of Chicago to find that many prison guards on short notice? It's not like anybody expects children in CPS to get an education....

Here’s where the big conservative backers screwed up;

While Soros is busy buying up all the DA’s the Right should have been supporting LOCAL school board candidates with money, campaign expertise and marketing advice. Most school boards are comprised of former teachers or teachers from outside districts that reside in another. The ONLY way to truly reform education is to take back the schools at the local level, meaning school boards. In our district ALL the votes are held in a single location, at the school making it easy for teachers and hard for retired or working people.

We must demand mail in votes for all school votes, and win back our districts and reform education and stop the Leftist indoctrination.

Well, public schools are just big expensive day care centers. If it were me, I’d recruit illegal Honduran aliens.

Prior to JFK, public sectors workers (government workers) were not allow to collective bargain. Basically the old law make unions illegal for gov workers including teachers. I think we should reinstate that law.

Teachers unions have destroyed K12 public education.

What is so hard about teaching anyone math, reading, writing, history?

2+2=4 unless common core is involved.
