With the benefit of hindsight and the catalyst of the Capitol debacle, it is easy to see Donald Trump for what he was: a cruel joke—cruel precisely because he was so close to what we wanted in this moment. He was a bona fide fighter, by all appearances, though sometimes excessively so; to those on his side the benefits seemed to outweigh the embarrassments, and to opponents he offered at least as much laughter as he did real cause for concern. At a time when millions of Americans struggled to find dignified work, he offered a populist conservatism and a new nationalism that promised to protect their interests. The appearance of sincerity was bolstered by his willingness to stand up to massive corporations despite his party’s decades-long coziness to the same. This was made all the more puzzling (and, maybe, all the more effective) by his hailing from one of the wealthiest and most prominent families in New York, perhaps the most powerful state in the Union.
You know the classic trope in campy sci-fi flicks where the mad scientist tries to clone someone (usually himself) and winds up producing some hideous, half-human thing that only bears, somewhere deep within, a ghost image of the person it was meant to be? Well, Donald Trump is our very own botched reproduction of Theodore Roosevelt.

Didn’t the Bull Moose party split the votes and lead to exactly what neither faction wanted, Woodrow Wilson?
Teddy’s bull moose party (officially the Progressive party). LOST.

Another pseudo- conservative sell out. No prob apparently w the election fraud that WE ALL SAW.
Donald Trump was saying the same things in 1980 interviews that he says now. Interesting man fir such a tune as this. Art of the Deal - same.
Joining many others in prayer. God bless & keep Pres Trump, his family, & the good guys safe.
AMEN!!! PRAY for the TRUMPS!! The Left wants ALL of them in PRISON and BANKRUPTED....and EVERYONE who ever spoke a good word about them! EVIL is Overtaking our country!
Overt “we all see it” evil is called good, and good things & people are deliberately misrepresented and labeled evil.
We all see it! Strange things, indeed... most peculiar.
I think what he meant was more that America needs a successful outcome from a Donald Trump presidency. It’s fine to bail on DJT now for some folks, with the appearance of a big setback to the anti-globalist fight. I would back Donald Trump in any new version of the same fight, and I would support any strategy that appeared to have any chance of victory at the polls in 2024, if in fact there isn’t a surprise ending and a continued Trump second term 2021-2024. In that case I would support the same principles for the best worthy successor.
It’s not necessarily a guaranteed loss to start a new party. The trick would be to start it early enough to create the necessary momentum to hollow out the GOP by 2022 so that almost all of its support base joined the third party. The same outcome can be achieved by having the base take over the GOP and expel the swamp creatures who must be fairly prominent in its executive to get the number of swamp creatures that it allows to run under its banners.
Either way, a more overtly anti-globalist party is needed.
It has to be said that Bull Moose Party must have sounded different in 1912 than it does in 2021. Any mention of Bull in the title of a political party now is going to invite satire on a grand scale.
The 2024 Republican Party will boost Mittens for President.
I propose DJT for the new “Reagan Party”.
No suggestions? You folks are refusing to get up. My choice is the My Pillow guy. His ads are upbeat and positive. I think he’s running. Could be cuban but he didn’t want to acknowledge Trump.
He should run for either Senate or Governor of Minnesota.
We just got the modern day zombie version of Woodrow Wilson in Biden
We had a Leader. One who respected both God and the ordinary people. And they could not wait to get rid of him.
Theodore Roosevelt? Are you serious? The guy who wanted to abolish private property?
You have a link for that - TR wanting to abolish private property?
I see the American Conservative is neither American nor Conservative.
Donald Trump was and is, as we all are, an imperfect human. Trying to portray him as a misshapen, pitiful character is dishonest and unhelpful.
FU AC.
Yup
Physically, mentally incompetent / incapacitated.
Manipulated as a marionette by others.
Wilson took a shredder to the Constitution.
Biden (his communist handlers) will burn it to ashes.
I’m not currently holding online History classes.
If that’s your answer then the odds are high you’re repeating hearsay or making it up.
Yeah last night before I went to sleep the last thing I thought about was what can I make up about Teddy Roosevelt on Free Republic tomorrow.
You prefer a GOPe that ignores you except on the rare occasion
And then despises that rare champion
Goldwater
Reagan
Most folks here would not have this crazy fixation on Wilson except for Beck and Levins crazy fixation on Wilson
In their Democrats always bad and GOPe as champions blather
That crap has worked out miserably
There have been plenty of Democrats historically that were socons and war hawks
I get tired of this simpleton logic
And how many Republicans have proven to be turds.....over half easy and that’s being generous
And when neocons bash Andrew Jackson as an evil democrat.....I say eff them
Damn straight we need a change
I,following Trump or his successor
