Of course they have real problems, many like those you describe. The problem I help them with is how not to make things worse and how to deal with them more effectively.
Since I'm a therapist maybe you'd like to send me a private reply so we can chat. Then you'll know at least one therapist whose life isn't a mess.
We’ve become such wussies that instead of taking action and righting wrongs and fighting against what is ailing us, we whimper in corners and whine to therapists and take drugs, albeit “prescribed”.
We deserve what we get as a nation.
“2020 was so bad, 1 in 6 Americans entered therapy for the first time!”
Nah, not me. I just upped my meds.
Immediately after the lockdown most of us experienced a drop in our caseload. But starting around September my own caseload has increased about 20-30% above normal.
If so, what in the past year has caused them distress?
For most, it is the usual things: relationship with kids and wives. At least that's what brings them in. Once we start working it usually gets to unrealistic demands that they are placing on themselves or life in general. However I have picked up some clients who are professional entertainers struggling with the impact of COVID-19 on their industry. For some it is anxiety about the political situation but that's actually been going on since Obama.
For instance, are the extraverts having a hard time with the loss of opportunities to socialize?
Haven't seen that. It seems to me that those folks who really need to socialize are doing it.
Are you seeing hypochondriacs who are overestimating their chances of dying from Covid?
There are people doing that not because they are hypochondriacs but because they have an anxiety disorder and overestimate risk across the board.
I like REBT because (1) you don't need a diagnosable disorder to benefit from it - it can help us all to lead more enjoyable lives and (2) it empowers the client to help himself so that he can cut loose from therapy sooner rather than later.
My actions do not need therapy. My actions send others to therapy, they are all insane leftists.

I think I’m going to have to stock up on valium. It’s not good.
