You think you can get people who are vetted well enough to access all the areas of the White House for $20/hr? Do you have any idea how much the clearance process costs? And 10 people to properly clean 55,000 square feet in one day? Seriously?
Assume we’re talking at least 55 people (that’s 1,000 square feet - or half a decent size house - per person cleaning to White House standards) and assume their actual cost (not what they’re making, but the cost to maintain them and their benefits and insurance and clearances) is more like $40/hr. Then add equipment and cleaning supplies and overhead (such as all those Federal taxes). I come up to around $30,000 and I’m sure I’m missing some things.
They are only about 70 years old. The White House was gutted (nothing left but the walls and roof), and completely rebuilt in the late 40’s. The White House Historical Society has pictures of this process, and sometimes posts them on their Facebook page.
It only took 20 posts to see what I’m thinking posted ;-)
