We can give thanks that the punishments for 21st-century heresy have not yet reached that level.

The French king at this time was Robert II, known to history as “Robert the Pious”

Such insanity and from the enlightened French Aristocracy. /sarcasm

They will soon resume that practice here, if you’re a “global warming”, I mean “climate change”, I mean “WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE”, denier.

And then there are today’s heretics like “John Roberts the Pious.” A man, a judge and constant traveler and companion of the late Vice Cardinal Jeffery Epstein, who hung himself in his monk’s cell as a sign from God to reinstate the death penalty for the morally derelict. Most times these two companions would pray on Pedophilia Island — prey on all the nubile, lovely, young bodies God had given them in this sacrosanct, away from all worldly corruption and sin hermitage. Yes, John Roberts the Pious — a pious fraud if there ever was one. And if we listen closely his screaming in his chambers can still be heard, screaming about riots and whatnot... I guess it’s time to get back to the hermitage.

If Martin I counts (Pope who was killed by the emperor for refusal to accept Monothelitism in 655), then the article is off by a few centuries on when the last execution took place—though as he was taken captive in Rome but killed in Byzantium, so arguably killed in the east rather than the west.

Around a dozen or so Popes have arguably died violently since, but doctrine doesn’t seem to have been an issue.
