Patriot Friendly Mutual Fund
December 22, 2020

Posted on 12/22/2020 2:29:49 PM PST by hiho hiho

I recently discovered that Google and Facebook were two of the largest stock holdings in one of the mutual funds that I hold in retirement accounts. I sold that mutual fund and am looking for a "patriot" friendly mutual fund. Any recommendations?

Who cares if you profit off of Google or Fakebook? Buy low, sell high. Period!

Liberal companies make all the great returns.

We bought Disney at $95 5-6 months back and now it is in the mid $175’s.

It is likely that ANY mutual fun you buy (unless it is a specialized industry specific fund) is going to try to maximize your returns. This means they will have the steady growers and larger companies. This includes The FANG stocks.

Without those stocks in their returns over the 5 year time frame would be modest at best.

As others have mentioned, most mutual funds actively trade their stocks. Many have over 100% turnover a year. So you may pick a mutual fund that doesn’t own Google and Facebook today, and the fund buy both of them tomorrow.

That being said, American Mutual Fund AMRMX does not list either of those companies in their latest quarterly holdings online, but they do list Microsoft. They also list Berkshire Hathaway, which is a holding company itself.

I noticed they have Apple and ViacomCBS among their holdings; not sure how far down the rabbit hole you want to go.

I’m not recommending it based on performance, simply as one mutual fund that meets your criteria. I don’t own it and I’m not suggesting you invest in it.

They tell you up-front that they are:
“a diversified portfolio of common stocks of U.S. companies”.
What did you expect?
