Pompeo: Russia Behind Widespread Hack Of U.S. Government
Legal Insurrection ^ | December 19, 2020 | Leslie Eastman

...Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio demanded retaliation against the hackers responsible for the massive cyber security breach.

“The methods used to carry out the cyberhack are consistent with Russian cyber operations,” Rubio, acting chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee said in a tweet. “But it’s crucial we have complete certainty about who is behind this. We can’t afford to be wrong on attribution, because America must retaliate, and not just with sanctions.”

…Rubio said the attack is close to “an act of war” in an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham Thursday night.

“You saw the bulletin tonight, it went out, it’s a grave risk to federal, to state, to local governments, to critical infrastructure, to the private sector,” Rubio said. “And as far as attribution, when you attribute it to somebody, you have got to know it for sure because it’s a very — this is almost, I would argue — an act of war, absolutely.”..

A commenter on LI, Exiliado, opines:

If an espionage service, after hacking a computer system, leaves behind any identifying evidence it has to be for one of 3 reasons:

1- Because they want to be identified, as a show of force 2- Because they are extremely incompetent 3- Because the evidence is misleading, blames somebody else

Remember, we were duped / lied to before. Recently.

I agree, although I do believe we have all our enemies organized against us, I cannot dismiss a US intel agency being the culprit because the foreign enemies have the goods on them. Puppets..

Pompeo is angling for 2024, and wants to show the Endless War crowd he will be their warmonger-for-hire. Nikki Haley will happily do her own saber-rattling.

It's all disgusting. the GOP has learned NOTHING from Trump. "Return to Normalcy" means the end of the party.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

The Cyber Hack is far greater in the Fake News Media than in actuality. I have been fully briefed and everything is well under control. Russia, Russia, Russia is the priority chant when anything happens because Lamestream is, for mostly financial reasons, petrified of....

....discussing the possibility that it may be China (it may!). There could also have been a hit on our ridiculous voting machines during the election, which is now obvious that I won big, making it an even more corrupted embarrassment for the USA. @DNI_Ratcliffe @SecPompeo

Frankly I don't believe any attribution statement from any politician or talking head.

Show the dam*** facts.

Put it out in black and white, and explained in detail by the handful of computer security professionals who understand this world, and have lived it. There is no sound reason for pols to be spouting this kind of speculative blather when they have no idea what they're talking about.

I'm not even saying they're wrong, only that they have zero nada no credibility in this field. Any assertion without facts is a political maneuver designed to manipulate citizens.

Finally, the fingerprints and M.O. look so far like a China Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) attack, which they've been doing for the last decade.

Durbin, after being fully briefed by Intel, admits to BBC that there is NO EVIDENCE:

30m to 38m07s: Dick Durbin. RussiaRussiaRussia. a massive cyber security breach. BBC: evidence?
Durbin: doesn’t have any, but there’s a pattern. interfered in 2016 election.
BBC: an act of war?
Durbin: a virtual one. Trump’s silence (echoing Romney). Trump’s friend Putin.
BBC: why do you think Trump hasn’t commented - he has said Putin is his friend?
Durbin: blah blah.
BBC: you are suggesting some sort of conspiracy. is there any evidence of that?
Durbin: I don’t have a body of evidence, but I do have proof of in-action over and over and over again by the Trump admin etc.
COVID: forget Christmas.

AUDIO: 52m59s: 18 Dec: BBC Newshour: James Menendez
Also in the programme: US Senator Dick Durbin on the cyber attacks on government agencies and private companies, and whether the incoming Biden administration should retaliate...

I do recall that the CIA was caught falsely implicating Russia. Now when I search, Google steers me to articles claiming that the CIA was NOT trying to frame Russia. NO, no no! We have it all wrong. They were just “repurposing” Russian hacking code! It’s ridiculous, and the stilted writing implies the CIA is morally pristine and resents the innuendo that it tried to frame Russia for it’s own actions. *facepalm*

Pompeo is a neocon. Neocons hate Russia and want conflict with Russia. I wish Trump had found a Sec of State who wasnt a neocon. Oh well.

“What actual damage has been done?”

Excellent question. Optional answers:

1) No damage whatsoever.
2) Something so bad that the idiots who dined on billion$ for “cybersecurity” might lose their jobs if we knew, so they won’t tell us, and we couldn’t trust them if they did.
3) Gullible people have been distracted from the election theft.

Option 4: Foreign opponents want us to tear apart and immobilize our computer networks to chase a chimera.
Option 5: Those who make big money chasing computer chimeras leave traces to create a crisis we’ll pay them to fix.

Is it easy to revert?

All I’ve seen for a response is that the US is going to close two Consulates in RooskieLand.
