This is a good article about Gramsci. It looks a lot like and earlier (possibly 1983) article by Robert Chandler in Accuracy in Media Bulletin.

Due to an unexplained elbow injury I sustained Wed or Thurs. morning, I cannot lift most of my binders to find key articles but I will eventually find the Chandler article on Gramsci and give you AIM’s address if they are still in their old office.

One good AIM Report, August - B 1994,XXIII-16, was devoted to “I.F. Stone Outed” about how AIM got his FBI files declassified. They showed that he was once an “active member of the Communist Party USA at one stage in his career” and possible ties to the KGB (Romerstein/Reindel and others have more on Stone in their books).

This issue of the AIM Report also has a small but important section on composer Leonard Bernstein and some of his documented CPUSA fronts/causes activities.

Maybe Gramsci didn't count on the overwhelming and malicious influence of the media in the equation

“a Marxist state was far more likely to develop through a slow, patient process of incrementalist takeover of the cultural institutions – the arts, entertainment, and news media, and most especially the schools and universities.”

Began in 1932 in the U.S.
