They don’t care about the Constitution.

It’s a totalitarian movement.

“...The public mind had rested with that assurance until the passage of the Missouri Compromise in 1854...”

The Missouri Compromise was 1820, not 1854. I think was the 1854 Kansas-Nebraska Act that broke the promise of the Mo Compromise that there would be no slavery in the Louisiana Purchase north of Missouri’s southern boundary except for Missouri itself.

We have often heard from conservatives that “politics is downstream from culture” and the way to reform political life is first to reform culture. Lincoln never made this foolish error [...] culture, while an important part of political calculus, is eventually determined or shaped by politics because politics is always a contest for rule.

Certainly those who would nurture and defend the culture cannot ignore politics. But the author seems to embrace the opposite error; in fact, if one ignores culture one cannot in the long term win any political conflict.

Less than 24 months ago I proposed that Congress create new countries on this very site, which it could have done by majority votes and Trump signing the bill into law.

These new countries could have barred income and property taxation in their territory, forever.

Our situation in 2020 is not at all comparable to the situation in 1860. In 1860 the country was riven by two competing rights: the right of the States to run their affairs as they see fit versus the right of all human beings to live free. Both were right and since both sides had a good measure of truth on their side both sides fought with their hearts. Moreover, both sides had tens of thousands of young, moral men who were physically strong due to surviving tough conditions and hard, physical labor. Those men on both sides were both capable and highly motivated to fight each other to the death, and so the unspeakable slaughter of Gettysburg, the Wilderness, and Cold Harbor.

Neither of those conditions apply today.

First, Blue stands for nothing except personal license to wallow in pleasure-seeking habits and a drive to have the virtuous Red pay for it all. Red really just wants not to be stuck with the bill. Red therefore wants to jettison Blue from their polity, and Blue wants to keep Red within their polity so they can tax them and transfer their wealth to parasitic Blue constituencies. There is no to-the-death moral issue at stake. Even abortion politics break down along these lines. Red states just want to be left alone - have their own laws on abortion and not have to pay for Blue state abortions via federal taxation. You know, like the Constitution mandates (pace Justice Brennan).

Second, Team Blue doesn’t have anybody fit to fight. Team Blue has government bureaucrats, social workers, special ed teachers, corporate cubicle serfs, and the like. Team Blue personnel for the most part do not interface with reality directly, but only indirectly through manipulation of a touch screen. The large majority of Team Blue doesn’t know how to shoot a gun, clean an AR-15, grow a few onions and carrots for the kitchen table, change the oil in a truck, fix a flat tire, etc. Very few ever served in the military or were trained as firefighters or cops. That’s not true for Team Red.

Would Team Blue really initiate violence against Team Red by, for example, sending Antifa/BLM to terrorize Team Red areas? They haven’t (successfully) done so yet. There were a couple of weak attempts last summer but they all ended with Team Blue tucking tail and running. And even if it was decided to send Antifa/BLM to war against us Deplorables, whom would they send again? Judging by the mugshots of Antifa/BLM arrestees this last summer their “army” would be made up preponderantly of special ed teachers on psych meds. These people would go up against veterans leading angry squadrons of the only physically developed young manhood in the country?

Let’s say the elites ordered the military to fire on Team Red. Would they obey orders to fire on their own families?

So, I just don’t see it. The truth is that we Red Staters can leave anytime we want and the parasitic Blue Staters can’t do f-all about it. Team Blue is still in complete denial of these simple truths, but they’ll figure it out if we but reach out and take our freedom back for ourselves and leave the Democrats to rot in their own excrement.

They use any excuse to accuse anyone prominent of “encouraging succession,” to get them defensive and make them disown it. Kneecapping the movement before it gains traction.

Rush fell for it.

Communists are masters of making the right disown Patriots.
