The fight would be over resources: who controls the wealth.
Also since our currency is only backed by the reputation of the U.S., it may become nearly worthless.

You will see many Blue states loose territory wishing to secede to reed states. California, Oregon, and Washington will loose land east of I-95 to Idaho.

The 1st civil war was over states rights and slavery. The 2nd will be over states rights and tyranny. The result will be like our revolution, liberty.

It’s winter. I say Louisiana should shut down every pipeline from the Gulf to the North; no winter heating fuel for them!!

If they would just annex the diseased counties onto Washington DC, Maryland would be the Free State, again, instead of the Freak State.

The states are the political entities that entered into the pact known as the USA. Complicating things like you suggest would lead to needless war and bloodshed.

The purpose of the Democrat Party is to elect liars and thieves to public office so that they have access to the public treasuries in order to rob the Taxpayers.

A divorce would be the best gift ever for both sides.

This could not happen soon enough either.

It’s like Al Qaeda/ISIS/Communism vs. Freedom. You cannot talk these religious leftists into compromise.

“Then counties should be allowed to succeed from the succeeding states.”

Retract your /s tag because what you said could be close to the truth. Yes, there are some solidly blue states...and those could be cut loose. But many states have their little blue enclaves around the large cities...but lean decidedly Right in the majority of the counties. Just segregate the blue counties/cities with border crossings. In a state that went for Trump (NC), I’d gladly move out of my blue county into a nearby red county...and stand watch at the blue/red county line as a crossing guard.

(Believe it or not...we’re now actively looking to sell our home in “Blueville” and move to a red county...one that voted Trump 70%+.)

This time is no different and for the most part, it involves the same group of people.

Very astute. I identify those "same group of people" as the Northeast power brokers who want to control Washington DC for their own financial and political ends.

And yes, they are still running the Deep State Swamp today.

I think I want this. Problem is going to be Social Security. That is the poison pill of secession.

Replace them with 401k type plans that force all Americans to invest in America. The plans would be mandatory with a sizeable contribution from the employers that increases with age and seniority. The money would be held in Trusts that would move the investment with the Americans career.
As for investment engines wall street would be part of it, but government infrastructure projects would also be part of it.

The 1st civil war was over states rights and slavery. The 2nd will be over states rights and tyranny.

Slavery was legal in the United States before, during and after the Civil War. The fight was not over slavery, the fight was over whether Washington DC would control the economics of the South, or whether the Southern states would control it themselves.

As a matter of fact, Washington DC offered them the "Corwin Amendment" which was a clear protection for continued slavery, but they had to remain in the Union to get the Corwin Amendment.

So the powers that were in Washington DC at the time, were perfectly willing to keep slavery so long as they kept control of the Southern economic production. (The South produced 3/4ths of all Federal revenue at the time.)

So it was over States Rights and Tyranny back then too.

“I beleive what the author is suggesting is a willing dissolution by both sides.”

There’d be no “willing dissolution”. Asking the Democrats to agree to a dissolution would be like asking a fat, blood-engorged tick to detach from & jump off of a perfectly healthy dog. Like the tick, the Democrats would fight tooth and nail to hang on to the “living host”.

So it's better that entire states break the compact? I fail to see how that will NOT lead to needless war and bloodshed. You cut out a cancer, you don't remove the limb or kill the body.

Absolutely it is. If you live in blue state then move your butt out of there.

The blue states would love for the red states to leave the union. Then they would be free to create “utopia”.
