Anyone who believes this stupid tweet should not be voting.

There is no such thing as a hard drive shredding truck.

There most definitely are such things. Not saying this tweet is correct, but multiple vendors provide on-location hard drive shredding.

Actually there are on-site hard-drive shredding companies so that you can be visually assured drives are shredded while-u-watch. Google ‘on site drive shredding’.

There is no such thing as a hard drive shredding truck.
There are multiple companies that advertise hard drive shredding.
A hard drive shredder works by completely grinding up and destroying every single part of a hard drive using a heavy-duty , industrial shredder designed for electronics and other non-paper products . Some people choose to destroy their hard drive the DIY way, by using a hammer or drill, for example.

Then you should have not voted. There are absolutely hard drive shredding trucks. They are used to certify that hard drives are destroyed onsite for DOD compliance.

A joke? Troll?

This is FROM THE WEBSITE FOR THE COMPANY GEORGIA HIRED:

*******************

Data Destruction

Premier Surplus Inc provides hard drive shredding solutions for government agencies and corporations in the Southeast. Typical document shredding companies do not have the proper equipment to effectively shred and handle data storage material and charge outrageous prices to have your hard drives shredded. Premier Surplus, Inc. utilizes a dual pass shred system that meets all NIST 800-88 and HIPAA standards for hard drive shredding and can shred over 125 hard drives per minute. Our secure, state of the art shredding/destruction facility located outside of Atlanta, GA. shreds hard drives into quarter sized pieces assuring true data/product destruction done right.

Of course there is such a thing.

The hard drive shredding truck visits our data center on a quarterly basis. All failed/decommissioned storage media goes into the truck and is turned into confetti.

Yes, there is. Anyone who's run a data center with massive disk storage farms in the Financial Services industry can tell you that.

Many firms such as the one I work for don't return drives to be "wiped" ... we have them shredded. That's in our contract with HDS, EMC and IBM for all the storage platforms from them that we own. They never get failed drives back. Those drives are pulled, locked in a secure room, replaced with new drives. Once a month the truck carrying the hard drive shredding equipment shows up, and shreds the drives. We have to keep the certification that those drives have been shredded on file for the regulators.

Uh, yes, there is. I’ve used one. They come to your site and shred your HDs while you watch it turned into metal shards. It’s expensive, but worth it for sensitive data you do not want out of your custody.

Typically you would use a degausser.... smaller and less mess.
