Equally troubling is the apparent intimidation of so many of our American institutions. How many Freepers have felt the need to advise their children to expunge their whole social media trail? How many businessmen are terrified for their careers, their families and their companies? We often say that the press is virtually 100% aligned against Donald Trump but what must we imagine is the state of mind of editors and reporters who contemplate going off the reservation? We already know that students in virtually every university in our land are either co-opted or reeducated.
What institution can we trust? How desperate is our hope that we can trust the Supreme Court.
When the President of the United States cannot retain his legal team because of physical threats or when commissioners of election are doxxed and publicly intimidated so they change their votes, where can we turn, whom can we count on to have our backs?
The (dare I say it?) Anglo-Saxon tradition of the rule of law is slipping away from us and we are about to enter into a Hobbesian dystrophy a new dark age made more sinister, echoing Churchill's rendering, by the lights of perverted digital technology.
If we lose this one, we might have lost it all.
