There has to be a way to port the data off the machine, and am damn sure there are people that monitor that.
If there are discrepancies the watchers will become the watched.

The voting device in my county in Texas had two small antennas located at the rear of the box: one connected to AT&T and the other to Verizon. (...a feature... /s)
The blank ballot paper was insert into the voting machine, tap your selections on the screen, and print your sections and, then, the voter hand-carried the ballot to the scanning device which also captured the ballots in a box in the base of the scanning machine. There was an IT guy rooming the area all day and was responsible for dealing with issues in about six voting sites during the day. Yup, the whole shebang is connected to the internet.
