I agree that the GOP is in an existential crisis but I don't think they fully understand it. They destroyed Reagan's legacy right after he left office and they got away with it (sure, they lost some elections along the way like GHW Bush but overall they survived just fine).

I think this is a different time. We elected Trump because we were sick of THEM. We don't trust THE GOP and the Uniparty in general. And their refusal to support and work with Trump just makes it obvious that we were right to distrust and dislike THEM. If they sit on their hands and plan to happily sip champagne at Biden inaugurations parties and the base will forget... well, that's one calculation they can make but I don't think they are right at all.

Thank you for saying that. My view (which seems to be controversial on FR) is that Reagan couldn’t reform the GOP and neither will Trump. The GOP is has proven itself over many decades to be highly resistant to change. This time will be no different.

I’ve laid out my case for a new party countless times. The only reason anyone votes for the GOP is that the alternative is worse. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to vote for a party that fights for us? I can dream, can’t I? :)
