I’ve always owned a cat, even many cats, but I agree with you.

Yes!

Search “lamination” under Google Local.

Or Google “bonsai cats”

I have read that female, light colored with longer hair don’t produce as many allergens which is exactly what we had for 16 years and no one was allergic. I didn’t know this when I got her. Now , I have the opposite of her and only have occasional itchy eyes.

I’ve had cats all my life and I have cat allergies. Of course it depends on how bad your allergies are.

People who are allergic to cats are not allergic to their hair; instead, they are allergic to proteins in the cat's saliva. Cats are always self-bathing, as they are very clean animals, so the protein gets spread onto their hair.

I used to be allergic to cats, but took allergy shots for 10 or 15 years. Today, I have no reaction to cat serum (was just tested yesterday). I know there are various cat shampoos advertised as helping with cat allergies, certain breeds, etc. I don't know if those work, as I haven't tried them. I DO know that the shots worked, at least for me. That old wives' tale of a female cat with long hair causes fewer allergies doesn't sound like it would hold water. Longer hair would have more saliva on it.

If you can, find an allergist who has experience with helping patients alleviate cat allergies. And good luck adding this wonderful critter to your home. I couldn't be without kitties!

Siamese are supposed to have less dander.

Good advice, but not entirely. My vet, who only treats cats, says it’s very important that cats have food with grain. Cats in the wild don’t eat grain, but they eat mice and rats that do. My darling kitty girl has been raised on Royal Canin cat food. First kitten food, then when she grew up, cat food. It’s pricey but really worth it. She also gets 1/3 can Friskies Turkey in Gravy every day. She just laps up the gravy, which is fine because most cats don’t drink enough water.

Vet says never NEVER feed her Blue Buffalo or Rachel Ray’s “Nutrish.”

Another good dry food is Purina One. Not as high quality as Royal Canin, but my son raised two very healthy cats on it. And another good one is Origen, which I fed two kitties with all their lives. Healthy til the end, though both had been hit by cars before I got them.

You can save a lot of money by buying online at Chewy.com

Good luck with your precious new girl. Love is the top ingredient.

My cat has a Twitter account and one of her favorite is a black cat named Putin. I think it’s a perfect name for a cat because cats are always right and they make the rules, you don’t.

How long have you rented from your landlord?

Offer him $10/mo more if he/she will build a fence and allow a pooch. The fence will add property value.

And for $120/yr you will be able to have the best friend in the world.

I’m about ready to get another “best friend” after having one die on me, about 13 hrs ago.

They are invaluable...

We had this situation, and found out that there is a difference between cats — some are more allergenic than others.. Fortunately, one of our neighbors got an older kitten from a litter, and our allergic family member played with it and didn’t react. So we went over and got a sibling cat from that litter and she stayed with us for 15 years.

Is that cheaper than building a fence for a dog?

Love the video. I think that’s the answer. Purina makes good quality food and it will surely be available at Chewy.com.

Small (very) dog and set up a plastic chicken wire fence in your backyard. Takes about 20 minutes Or long lead close to your back door and hook the pup to it when you let him out.

Yes in my experience. While I was away to college my parents picked up a cat or two and when I’d come home I’d sneeze and have symptoms but acclimated by the time I went back. Eventually the cats lived with me and I had no problems.

There are recommendations on this thread for toy poodles and chihuahuas. I have lived with both and liked both more than I thought I would. They are small, but they are real dogs. Neither was yappy.

I wouldn’t.

I guess there are degrees of allergies, but if it’s pretty bad I would not.

Too bad.

Cats are a pain in the ass. They claw the crap out of everything. Male cats spray and they just aren’t worth it to me. I know there a bunch of cat lovers, but to me, nothing more loyal and loving than a dog. Go to a shelter and adopt an older one.

Actually completely depends on the cat.

My current is sort of stereotypical. He is nice but skittish a bit, likes to be around us, but on his terms. Wants to be affectionate when he likes it, but if we try on him he squirms. Doesn’t particularly care if we try to call him.

My most beloved cat who died 20 years ago, was so sweet and loved all the attention, would follow us anywhere and came when called very happily.
